Any outfitter owners here?

I imagine this thread is headed one of two directions, a lock or the rabbit hole huntaholic foresaw long before me. I don’t have the energy for the latter, I spend a lot less time here than I used to and a lot more with my family. Frankly the thought of doing my best to respond to affronts off a message board sounds like worst game of whackamole imaginable and a waste of precious time. I’m sincerely appreciative of some kind PMs recently here, you know who you are, and of those that said what they think in respectful ways during this thread, both for and against my views.

I encourage everyone to be able to say what they think, and don’t feel compelled to follow the crowd. If you find something isn’t what you once thought or believed in, don’t be afraid to change rather than double down or go quiet. Even if people judge you for it without knowing an inkling of the story behind it. If you meet somebody you used to make fun of, and find them to be somebody you can learn from even if you still don’t agree, go for it and say it; it feels good. I’d also encourage everyone to hold an open mind, as a closed and inflexible mind is a waste of our best gift.

And finally, as I hate to have to have to admit that this one pissed me off, if 45ACPKING really believes he got a bad impression of me at a Canadian gun show when I’ve never been to one, let him have it. I don’t want to openly accuse him of fabrication and will give the benefit of the doubt to memory. After saying aloud I can respect Jagmeet Singh as an individual, I’d have even less of a problem saying if the interaction he claims was real. As for Brian46, let me know the name of your very good friend, if he’s real too, you and I as in far closer in circles than you’d expect.

Cheers guys, look forward to posting about boring coastal deer hunts with my family and building classy hunting rifles.

Jesus man, give it up!

Big difference between someone who owns a company and someone who flys for a company.

You think taxi drivers give a political questionnaire before they will drive you across town?

So if Ardent owned the territory he sold and owned the outfitting company that booked and took clients there, who owned the helicopter that was being used to fly them in and out he was piloting and how did Ardent not know who the clients were in advance?

Now with covid, It is far less likely a passenger who is going to be sitting side stick to a pilot for a few hour tour is going to enjoy any sort of anonymity until they just show up and sit down. Identity, proof of vaccination or negative test result is going to be required up front for booking and available to the pilot well in advance for him to ensure his own safety.

I’m amused to have to explain this, but the helicopter belongs to a helicopter company. Your good friend will have further details on this particular, strangely common arrangement. As you yourself noted and I paraphrase, “we’re talking B.C. and Alberta flying, not international travel facing travel bans”. People quite literally just call for a helicopter and say I have four people, we want to go here, and this is my credit card number. I wish it was more interesting than that, but I’m sadly just… sky Uber. The only preboarding question I ask is, “Does anyone suffer from motion sickness?” Selfish… I know.

Finally, there seems a lurking suspicion I’m rubbing elbows with federal politicians and evil greenies and profiting wildly. Likely with a secret agenda and a lair I can fly a helicopter to where I hatch the plans. Scratch the last part I was getting carried away. Anyhow, that’s a flattering depiction I’d love to be able to run with. But disappointingly, I’m just a pilot doing what pilots do. That’s my profession oddly enough, since I’ve retired from outfitting.

Stay fast loud and proud Brian. You do you.

Brian you have more crossed wires than my ‘62 Landrover.

Do us all a favour and buy your buddy a beer, and have him explain the general charter aviation business to you. Be forewarned though, I doubt his insight will fit the narrative of your witch hunt.

Could have just said you are a pilot that works for someone else. Here I was thinking you are an owner operator with your own guide business and equipment.

That I was, and did. That explanation really didn’t seem necessary and everyone else appeared to understand that. So, to be very clear… I’m also a pilot professionally. You of all people with a very good and successful friend in the business will know, helicopters cannot be used for any aspect of outfitting.

Interesting. I never knew that.

choppers are or were used in quebec and nwt for fishing and hunting. forbidden here for hunting but accepted for fishing some juridictions are different for sure.

You fighting with the Prince of Darkness, Lucas electrics? After 18 years, I gave up and sold my FJ40 Landcruiser this spring. It never really died but it never really worked either. That’s the realm of old Landrovers and Landcruisers; the in between of the mechanically living and the dead.

And true enough Phil, should clarify talking BC only on the helis and outfitting. They’re used and legal in the NWT.

Lots of "horse flogging" going on by a bunch of people who think they are privy to facts, but clearly know sweet shyte all... from my vantage point their fuel is jealousy...

there is only one way to make land rover working (88 or 109) having a fj,hj or bj 45 ... you can t kill those diesel engines ...

Ardent found this old thread when I was going back deleting old PM messages. Seems you attracted some attention here. Probably some of the same crowd who waxed on about how Glocks never rusted until...I digress. Glad to hear you have been successful in transitioning, albeit using some of the old skill sets, to a successful Hopticopter pilot. I as going to point you to the M&P 10MM with the stainless slide but that would now seem moot although..

I am 100% sure I never met you at the Kamloops Gun Show, mostly because I have never been there either. Another illusive fact is that I have never met you either. Perhaps one day. Coffee is always on if you ever drop in to Terrace.

Take Care

Bob
ps A long time ago I drove the then, Minister of Indian Affairs, Jean Cretien out to the Ft. Simpson airport. He sat next to me and we talked about some issues of the day. Great guy, down to earth with a sense of humour. He liked the smell of my moose hide moccasin's I was wearing. I never voted for him nor have I ever voted Liberal federally. But he was sincere in his beliefs and a solid family man.
