If that topic title got you excited, you'd better go find yourself a different kind of forum!!!!:runaway:

What I mean is, does anybody practice shooting a rifle both right-handed and left-handed?

A couple of years ago I had a buck sneak up on my wrong side and I nearly twisted my spine trying to get a shot. The other day I realized that I'm physically capable of switching hands/eyes to take a shot from my wrong side. I think I'll put in some practice at the range.

If the Guiness Book had a category for the clumsiest ambidextrous person, I would be a shoe in.

I do all the time with open sights. I don't find it as easy with a scope, but I am very capable. Quickly shouldering my rifle off hand is not as easy, but I can shoot capably and could take an animal off hand.

I shoot either way with my shotgun.Depends on what way the birds are comming from.
I also shot a little buck left handed this year with my rifle from my stand as my position wouldn't allow a right handed shot.Worked out fine.I am going to do some practice with the rifle as it felt a little awkward with a scope.Nothing like pointing a shotgun.

My father is right handed, and always shoots left.

I agree

I can shoulder a rifle with iron sights no sweat.

But I don't practice enough with a scope, it always surprises me that I don't have the scope lined up properly

Naturally I would have been shooting left, but i forced myself to leanr right hand. Havent tried, but I imagine I could go back without too much trouble

Although I shoot right mostly,I do occasionally find myself having to shoot at game as a leftie as to not give my position away.I shoot left at the range just to make sure I can still make a left handed shot when needed.

I would say no... but I have taken a few clays at the range left hande (sometimes, one handed) Last year I took a couple of crows as well. maybe it is worth practicing.

My father and brother are both left eye dominant and right handed, My bro likes to shoot rifles left and shotguns right (or is it the other way aropund) anyway, he does very little shooting but with practice I am sure he would have no problem.

I am quite ambidextrous at many things, and have no problem shooting Left or right with a rifle, although I shoot right mostly because of my dominant right eye. Being able to switch has bailed me out of a possible lost animal a couple of times when a right handed shot was impossible to make. Regards, Eagleye.

Actually just last night I realised I should start giving it a try. I'm right dominant but quickly becoming ambidextrous, and realised, hey, why not learn to shoot left handed as well?

For some reason I find I can shoot just as good either way, and it really helps out for those moments when the animal shows up on the side I was hoping it wouldnt come out, I almost feel just as compfortable shooting left as I do right. I guess the practicing pays off. I probably have shot just as many animals lefthanded as right.

I can and do shoot either way. I am naturally right handed but an eye injury has made my left eye my good one, so Ive adapted and shoot mainly left, although I still shoot right hand guns.

I'm left handed, left eye dominant. Whenever I go shooting I always switch sides after reloading. After doing that for a while, I start to forget which is my natural side.

In a SHTF scenario, you might find yourself having to shoot around a corner, from cover. If you can only shoot right handed, and the corner of the building or whatever you are using for cover is on your right hand side, then you have to step out into the open a little to fire. If you can shoot lefty, then you only have to stick your head/arm/rifle out. (I'm not in the military or anything BTW, I learned that playing paintball.)
