New shotguns, MAG-FED and SHORTIES - NEW PICS

CanAm

According to the Criminal Code, a restricted firearm is:

-A handgun that is not a prohibited firearm; NOT APPLICABLE

-A semi-automatic, centre-fire rifle or shotgun with a barrel length less than 18.5 inches that is not prohibited; NOT APPLICABLE

-A rifle or shotgun that can fire when its overall length is reduced by folding, telescoping or some other means to less than 26 inches;

-Any firearm prescribed as restricted. MAYBE DOMINION ARMS 870 IN FUTURE IF SOLD WITH PISTOL GRIP INSTALLED?

Coltfan: 10-03-2007
“Is replacing a fixed stock with a pistol grip considered "other means" when discussing reducing over all length”

CanAm: 10-03-2007
Nope, the RCMP have ruled it is not "other means"

CanAm: 10-03-2007
“…Our own RCMP letter is coming…”

CanAm: 10-03-2007
“…Yes, you can replace the stock with a grip on your 870. Something in writing [from the RCMP] is coming…”

Please provide your RCMP letter/ruling confirming the RCMP’s acceptance of a pistol grip installed on a pump action shotgun where that, after installation the overall length has been reduced to less than 26 inches.

The letter is now moot as the FRT lab is trying to call ALL shotguns with bbls less than 16" handguns. The Dlask case will sort that matter out. The letter in question was whether placing a pistol grip on a SG was "other means" and it is not, according the the CFC and FRT lab, but again, moot.

That's heavy:eek::eek:

Have you informed all your customers who bought your short shortguns for Christmas?

Not that I doubt you, but can you provide the CGN community with evidence to this effect "it is not, according to the CFC and FRT lab..."???

Do a search. It's been talked about pretty heavy.

If you're genuinely concerned, call and speak directly to them when ordering and ask whom to confirm the status with. But seriously - having someone every 5 pages demand the same proofs over and over is really getting boring.

Foxer,
I read the shotgun threads pretty diligently, but haven't seen anything regarding Chris's statement about the FRT trying to get ALL barreled shotguns under 16" classed as handguns.....
Do you have a thread link handy...?

Chris, is this going to have an impact your decision to import the mag fed versions?

Eveyone asks because nothing has been provided. Talk is cheap. And now 16 inch and under may not be GTG.

Yes talk is cheap. Are you putting money down on one? If so - then you definately have the right to demand some answers before buying. From the seller.

Otherwise... as you say...

No, but you can read about the fight on the original dlask thread. Apperently there is a bit of a schizm in the ranks.

What I can tell you with certanty is that this is an active topic there.

None whatsoever. This is not new info. Just answering the new guys question.

That's refreshing news...sort of..

The bit that was 'new info' for me was the feds grab for guns w/ barrels 16" and under.
Adds the 'barrels at 16.5"' to my list of 'wanna see's' when you bring in the separate barrels..:(

I'm assuming Canam means that pistol grip plus barrel under 16" = restricted due to overall length but with full stock = non-restricted. Am I correct?

This has been covered over and over and over and over. Use your search function please. Doesn't make any difference to me if restricted or not, I don't hunt and I always take something restricted when I go to the range.....

Also, word to the wise new guy, read, read and read some more before you post or the guys on here will tear you a new one:). Oh and welcome to CGN!!;)

Not in law, however that is the current interpretation by the FRT-lab based on US LAW . Hence the court case.

I already have a short SG. The question is the legitimacy of installing a pistol grip on it that makes it less than 26 inches in overall length. If CanAm is willing to provide definitive counsel to others regarding this acceptability I think it’s only fair to show everyone the letter.

If not, that’s fair enough. No offence…thanks for the new ring. I have been reading…and lurking…for 3 years.

Wow - didn't notice your join date. You picked a heck of a contentious topic to chime in on......

Good news. They cleared customs this morning. If you are needing them before Christmas email me. But, please only if you are needing them for under the tree as we'll only be able to do a few rush orders.

yeah mine can wait also...but i'm wondering if there is any way to pick it up locally? your adress on the web site is right across from where i live but i assume its just a po box cause i've never seen a gun store on the north shore...i'd be eating mac and cheese every night if there was one within walking distance.
