Looking for an All-Purpose, compact .308.

The Remington Model 788 is a nice compact mag fed 308 win too

Look no further than the Ruger American Hunter Magpull edition.
Reasonably priced, accurate, detachable AICS mag and checks most of your boxes.

You guys looking for CZ557 "real" Rangers should be patient, there was just three new ones sold by Wanstalls in mapleridge, I was lucky to get one, its my second Ranger now

This what im going to buy to start with. I'll likely buy a cz557 series rifle next for a more traditional option.

Keep an eye on the exchange threads. There's always someone on this site hoping to retire early by selling their CZ Ranger.

Build something on an older Rem700. Pick up the aftermarket stock and whatever bottom metal you like. Plenty of different companies making 10 round mags for a 700.

^^ This ^^ .... I did a 760 cut back to 20" and added a receiver sight a few yrs back. It was perfect & didn't look like a squirt gun either. :)

+1

These 740/7400/760/7600's are always croping up on the EE at decent prices. May not meet the OPs requirement of a bolt action, but a solid viable option in Carbine form.

Agreed, 700 ADL or BDL bottom metals are generally readily avail on the EE. If not, there's always the Magpul or more expensive DBM variants route you could go with.

Yes it is, but it needs to be a higher front blade.

Ok, I have a Williams sight for my 7600 Carbine and was wondering if the front sight needed changing to match up. I picked up a set of fiber optic sights instead and am selling off the Williams. Just seems too much hassle to install it.

Needed a cheap beater.

Was actually impressed with the Mossberg MVP Patrol considering I bought mine for under $400.

Need more trigger time to see if my impressions hold up.

Did do a little bit of work smoothing out the feed ramps, sharp edges with burrs.
