3 Powders

Titegroup
Varget
BlackHorn (cause deer aren't gonna shoot themselves during the muzzy season) :)

What powders.would you choose if you could have only 3 to cover everything from pistol to magnum rifle.

Me:
1. Unique
2. 4198
3. 4350

I would in a pinch replace 4198 with 5744. I been experimenting with D5744 from Canada Ammo. Works in everything from 30-30 to 300win to 458win. No top velocity but versatile

I have good old 700X, likely about 20 lbs. I've used it for years in shotgun, pistol and light rifle. Being of the packrat tribe, I buy powder, primers, and brass when available at decent prices. I avoid oddball powders and calibers. 700X, Unique, 231, Ammo Mart 44, etc. are the main items on my menu.

Yes, I've just picked up 10lb of D5744 ( a few days before big 25% off sale, my loss ) Its great fun in the 45-70. I was just thinking about my 30-30 today as well, plus I've a few other calibers here that'll use it with cast. It gonna be a great fall.

or 4831 of some type for the slow one, but I've taken advantage of the dominion powders popping up and have 5-10 lbs each of 700x, 2015, 4198, 4064 and 4350 so I can reload a long time. I do love unique, 4198 and 4350.

Based on my recent load tests:

CFE 223 for my .223 Rem and my .35 Whelen;
StaBALL 6.5 for my .270 Win, .280 AI, and .30-06;
IMR 4831 for my .257 Wby Mag, .270 WSM, 7mm Rem Mag, and .300 Win Mag

EDIT: CFE 223 for my .30-30 as well, looks like some interesting recipes to try out.

If I could only do 3 they would be
700X
2400
H4831SC
I usually use the above but I use one more powder quite a bit and 2 powders in the mix if I need something that will work in just about anything.

H380

Backups to load anything powders.
Win 748
Win 760

I have close to 100 different cartridges that I work with. I didn't list any thing in Black Powder.

If anything, the choice of three says more about the kind of shooting you do. If you love Varget, you're certain to be feeding a centrefire rifle in a certain cartridge range. Trail Boss says you're a cowboy. Each powder tells a story. Gaps between your choices say you're not reloading anything that you can't.
