Wondering if anyone with the S&W M&P series pistols have any experience with the mags getting easier to load over time? Even the first round in my M&P 9 is difficult to load let along a full 10 rd mag.

Any tips?

Open the mag and snip off a loop or two from the spring.
Makes a huge difference.
There are youtube vids about this.

Never had a problem loading afterwards and never had a failure to load into the chamber.
I think they use the same spring size for the full capacity mags and that is why it is so hard.

Take the mag apart. You will see that the follower has 4 little legs out the bottom. These legs bottom in the mag and make the last round very difficult. File the legs down by about 4mm each. This will make it a 10 1/2 round mag.

As stated above..Works every time

I left mine loaded for awhile and they got easier to load, they’re still stiff compared to any other mag I own but they can be fully loaded by hand now. I know people say compressed springs won’t soften but it’s noticeably easier to load them now.

Stiff ? Yes they are good quality springs, load them with your fingers, they will loosen up a tiny bit, but You will get better at it.if you are still having problems you could buy garbage pro mags, which are crappy, or get a revolver lol

Buy an UpLula. My Glock35, 40S&W & my Glock34 both have last round compression issues.
All solved by UpLula.

There are 2 issues with a stiff 10th round.

First, it is hard on the fingers, unless you have an Upla.

Send, and much more importantly, when you do a tactical reload (slide is closed) the entire stack of rounds has to compress a bit to allow the mag to seat. I wish I had a dollar for every time I have seen a freash mag fall on the ground in a match because the mag did not seat properly.

This is why it is important to take some plastic off the bottom of the follower to make it a 10 1/2 round mag. This way the mag will click in place easier.

THIS is the solution. Did it to all of mine.

This.

The problem is with the magazine followers.

There is no problem with the magazine springs, and there is no problem with your thumbs.

The magazines are "lawyer proofed" in manufacture by making the follower legs longer than necessary.

You can safely remove material from the legs until you can fit 10.9 rounds in the magazine. This makes tactical reloads easier.

But go slow and be careful:

If you remove too much, so that somebody with gorilla thumbs could get 11 rounds in that magazine, you've done something naughty.
