Ultimatum Deadline?

I appreciate all the positive feedback, although noone has answered anything regarding feel of the action. From what I've seen it looks like the harder it's run the smoother it is? If you work it slow it's notchy, for lack of a better term?

I don’t have a lot of time behind mine. Feeding may vary depending on the caliber, can only speak about .233. Bolt cycling, lift, extraction - all very smooth. Feeding from acs mags, mine does not like being cycled slowly.

My buddy's competition rifle is based on a Deadline. Early action, and other than the wierd inletting, he's been very happy with it. He's played around with different parts, 1/2 #### on open/half on close bolt, etc. But mostly just for fun. It was smooth enough new, but is very smooth after some use. It definitely doesn't hold him back, he's consistently in the top 3 or 5.

Built one last summer. It’s a gen2, I love it. Very smooth. Bolt close and lift is excellent.
Drop in to a bravo but it need the mag catch shortened only. Which was very easy to do.
0 feed problem with mdt mags in 6.5 creedmoor and 6.5 prc.
Both barrels are shouldered. I run a slight amount of synthetic oil on the bolt and it is amazing slick. Although I’ve only had it sxs with a tenacity and Curtis axiom. I would take the ultimatum over both.

How consistent are deadlines machined? Are shouldered prefits an option, or does the smith need the action on hand to spin up a new barrel?

I’ve put barrels on mine with two different bolts heads and one other action. Probably varied .005” between the three.
I personally don’t see much benefit to pre fits in general. But that’s just me. I guess if they are on the shelf it might save you some wait time?

It's not that big of a deal if you have your gunsmith measure the dimensions of your action, and save those on file. From there, your gunsmith should be able to make shouldered barrels for your action in the future, without you having to send off your action.

I do agree that the benefits of pre-fit barrels are a bit overstated. It's a bit annoying to have to send your action off every time you need a new barrel (IMO_, but that is easily avoided by doing the above.

I can only provide my experience with the Gen 1 action. I have not played with any other custom actions.

It took me a while to get to a place where I liked the action. Mainly due to the fitment issues (early model MDT ACC) and some gripes I had with the trigger hanger screw and then of course some feeding issues. I ended up bedding the action in my MDT chassis and got some all metal mags. I also had to slightly shorten the mag catch to allow the mags to seat properly. Was it worth it? Im not sure ... But I do like it now. It feeds well and is a solid action to say the least. Bolt lift is a little heavy but about half of what a Savage 10 is - if that is any indication?? The bolt cycle is smooth and can be run pretty fast for sports like PRS. Ejection is strong with the 2 ejectors.

For my next build I will go with a big horn origin. The only 2 reasons I went with the deadline is that I wanted to support local (Canadian) and I got a good deal on a gen 1 from a forum user.

Hope this helps. I'll be happy to do a demo if you like

I have 2 Deadline Gen 2 single shots for F-Class and benchrest. I very much like them and find they are solid, stiff and well machined. The bolt issue for me is the same or less than any of my other actions so I really don't understand what everybody is discussing but I use them in a different game for which they are perfectly suited. I do like the 60 degree bolt angle over my 2 lug actions also.
