Black Special vs. Ar15 + CZ 527

Hey,

So this is what it comes down too, im looking to buy myself a christmas present and I want something to shoot varmint with as well as something that is "tacti-cool". Im debating between getting a Stag AR15 to fill the "tacti-cool" position, and getting a CZ 527 reg barrel w/ kevlar stock to fill the varmint position. On the other hand, I could just buy a black special, and it can do both. What are the thoughts/opinions on this? The length/weight of the swiss arms doesnt really bother me as I will likely be getting a longer barreled AR 15 anyways... Also, I really dont like the idea of having to shoot a rifle at an "authorized" range, as I like taking it to the outdoor range nearby.

Unrestricted for 3000$. And you need to pay 300$ for a mount before you can even think of putting a 1000$ scope on... not really interesting, financially speaking. ;)
 
The Swiss Arms is the way to go. They have come down to $2,800, while not cheap, it is definitely better than when i bought mine. Mine shoots m.o.a. with just about everything I throw in it. It's not cheap, but those that have them, love them. That says something.
 
Ya' can't shoot varmits with an AR of any make or model! So you either spend the money and buy the AR for looks and the CZ for killing or as you already memtioned the Swiss arms which are reported to be very accurate but to date no one has bested my AR score at our monthly matches with one!

Your seriously wondering which one to get? Wow, Have I not taught you anything...lol....Go with the Black Special Duncan, it's non restricted and would make a great varmint hunting rifle...Hands down~~Black Special for sure....I'll have it wrapped for you! :D Seriously tho, why would pay (with scope and mounts) $2000 for an AR and have limited use of it..You can only shoot it at an approved range.. Black Special or even the Classic Green you can take it out to the farm and get them pesky varmints or just do some basic target shooting...

I have the black Target special. It has a picany rail on top with flip up iron sights for back up. Just add rings and a scope. No extra cost.

When it comes to accuracy with the Swiss Arms, I suspect you need the Swiss 63 grain RUAG ammo to really make it shine. As I undersand it this rifle was designed to shoot that type of ammo not our off the shelf .223 ammo. Unfortnately the cost of this ammo is very high, so you don't see a lot of people using it with their Swiss rifles.
 
The factory supplied 1:10 barrel will shoot anything up to and including the 69 gr. SMK and the 68 gr. Hornady HPBT (which are actually a little longer than the 69SMK).
While the GP90 ammo is very nice, you can do better with handloads, and the 69 SMK (imho) is the bullet to beat.
The 55 & 60 Vmax are also very good bullets that would would work for varminting.

By going with the one rifle, (PE-90) despite it's cost, you will save money in optics, parts, etc., and you will be (presumably) loading for one gun as opposed to two.

Don't let me talk you out of the Swiss rifle....

You can indeed get an AR-15 with a heavy barrel that is *very* capable of shooting varmints. You need to get one that is properly set up, but there are a several companies that can do that. I would go with something in 1:8 or 1:7 twist. You are going to be shooting heavy bullets ....

Yeah there is pa guns, we're just not allowed to take our AR's anywhere but the range due to our ridiculous gun laws.

The AR's capability for shooting varmint is not in question but rather it's rediculous classification under our laws. AR's are range guns period, no matter what flavor. :mad:

Hi

One of my AR's was supposed to come new in the box with a five round mag. I spotted it missing and asked where it was. Since it was a brand new rifle I figured it was a reasonable question. The answer I got back was "went to Canada". He then handed me three brand new mags.

Not only do you guys get to use strange mags, we get a couple of extra standard sized mags thrown in. Talk about the short end of the stick .....
