1- It kicks too much for a casual hunter/shooter to build consistency and may, in fact, ruin the existing consistency through sheer recoil (muzzle brakes and Limbsavers can help here big time);
2- Most game won't notice a difference between a modern .30-06 and a factory-loaded .300 Win Mag in similar rifles (thinking both having 24" barrels) as I've gotten 180's moving over 2850 in modern guns (that said, a hot .300 WM load is absolutely cooking);
3- If you are an accomplished shooter and have built up a recoil tolerance, it's an excellent all-around hunting cartridge with the proper bullets with devastating effect on a well-hit target (don't disregard the 200 grain bullets - they are awesome on tough game and can still be driven pretty fast).
