Protective eyewear

Walter

They sit OFF of my cheeks. Contact only on each ear and on the bridge of my nose.
If you look under the Rudy Project page, mine are the Rydon EV model.

I'm sure it is very hard on them. But.....It used to be that you could take Oakley’s into any point of purchase and they would warrantee all parts unconditionally. Not anymore. If you sweat at all (and who doesn't in the summer) the nose pieces and rubber ear pieces last a season and then turn to gooey mush while the lenses scratch so easily...and it usually is right in front of the master eye.... one piece of brass bouncing off a close wall will do it. That's what did it last time, and I would usually end up replacing a set of lenses every two years and none of that stuff is warranted. The frames become brittle usually over two or three years and end up snapping in half on the stem/s when you simply take them off, and then since they only warranty for a year now you are screwed for a set of frames. I started carrying my Oakley's in their padded hard case and using them only for shooting, treating them with kid gloves and babying them. Sure they lasted longer, but the rubber bits still rotted off and the frames broke. I had two pairs and still have one that have been basically unused for the last couple of years so for now they seem fine. I dunno, it they are that fragile I don't think they are worth the money they charge. Maybe if they cost 30 bucks they would be worth it, but not at $200.00+. The metal frames I have now are very low profile (not like the Oakley's) and light, and will never snap in half. One full season plus a half into them and they still look new.

Suffice to say that once these ones cack on me I won't be replacing them. But hey, everyone has their own set of critieria for what makes a product great.

I have 4 pairs and have never broken any of them or the rubber rotting off.

I use ESS ICE 2.4 with prescription inserts. Frameless (their words) ... great field of view. Comes with clear, smoke, yellow interchangeable lenses.

I used to use the popular Oakley M Frames, but found that their design caused ear muffs to be pulled away from my ears, decreasing their efficiency. (Less Hearing protection = more chance of flinch)

When we started selling the sunbusters it was because I was very impressed by the fact that they did not interfere with the muffs and they were high quality lenses and for $150, I got what cost me $400 from Oakley.

We dropped selling the sunbusters because they just didn't sell to the dealer networks. Oakley has the product recognition that cannot be beat in the high end spectrum, and the rest of guys go cheap with the junk glasses.

I still use the sunbusters after we dropped them, though. If I didn't have them. I'd be seriously looking at rudy project.

For those guys with the $20 safety glasses; unless your time at the range is only an hour or so, do yourself a favor and invest in something with quality lenses. There's a REASON prescription glasses are not $20. Optical Clarity. The longer you wear poor quality lenses in front of your eyes, the quicker your eyes get tired. You can't shoot well with tired eyes. If you're going to spend $700+ on a gun, $100 for decent eyewear to make it work is only common sense.

I still have one pair of M frames sitting in the hard case that I have been babying. I had two pairs...one clear and one neutral grey.... but one snapped at the stem while simply taking them off one day after shooting. I'd babied that pair also. As to the rubber; maybe I have acid sweat or something, I don't know, but mine turn to mush. The safety frames I have right now are basically bullet proof, and I am very happy with them.

ACid for sweat/blood, I think I saw your movie....LOL;)

Coming in late on this but according to me the 2 best choices are Rudy Project ( get the vermillion and clear lenses) or Serrengetti drivers with the
vermillion lenses. both have perfect optical clarity and if you can't see you can not shoot well, besides both are very cool looking even when i wear them.

Cool?

Ah yes... you may think they make you look cooler, but alas for you, not younger. You should be investing in a product that makes you young looking. Or maybe you should just stay with the leather helmet and flying goggles.

By the way, the Rudi lenses you want are the IMPACT-X photochromic red, and a set of Laser Clear for indoors. If you need something darker between stages for outdoors, then get the IMPACT-X grey or Tactical Grey. One should always shoot with the lightest lenses possible, as the medically proven
fact is: more light in = more responsive and better brain activity. This is good for those who shoot with their brain. So I guess none of us then...

Yup. I always use clear lenses indoors or out and wear a cap to keep the sun and brass out of my eyes. Of course the up side to doing so is that the resultant steely-eyed squint that I sport while shooting stages serves to intimidate the targets very nicely in a decidedly Clint Eastwood-like manner.

Got the Maverick Sunbusters from Sean....Good deal especially for that many lenses!!
I like the yellow and the "orange-y)"
