Just looking to see what owners of this gun think. I'm not crazy on the thought of having a chinese 1911, but it will be my first and I want one I'm not going to be afraid to beat on.

Any input on this gun is appreciated.

I have two, along with a whole room full of other hardware. I like mine, they shoot well, accept orginal parts and are easy to work on. lets face it, whatever 1911 you buy, you will likely spend a lot on after market parts anyway. By the way I really like the quality of the barrels.

Thanks for the info Steve. So all the aftermarket grips/triggers/sights fit the norcs just fine?

Norc Commander

I had one & only sold it when a real deal Colt Combat Commander came along. Otherwise I would've kept it.

If you are going to get one, spend a little extra & get a tuned one via Armco. You'll be glad you did... ;)

+ 1 on the Armco tunes Commander! I bough one ftom Armco that arrived the other day. I took it out to the range yesterday and put 300 rounds through it with no problems! I'm very happyt with the decision to buy it. Well worth the money!

Yep!
the only original parts on mine are the frame and barrel, Everything aftermarket fit nicely. You will benifit from a rail job to remove a little of the park finish, but that can easily be done at home. Like any 1911 once you have found the right balance of parts, it will work like a charm.

Here's mine.

I replaced the sights, grips, thumb safety, grip safety, hammer, and trigger. I am more than happy with it. Never had a stoppage with it yet.

I'm eyeballing the Norinco Commander as well. I have a Norinco 1911 (for sale) and have been quite happy with it and glad I spent my money elsewhere (and not on insanely priced colts). Never owned an Armco.

If its your first 1911 my advice is go with a basic platform like Norinco or Armco and see if its your cup of tea. These things maintain their resale value as long as they are not abused and then you can see if it your platform and then spend money on the collectables/race guns.

i'm pretty sure it's Houge.

FYI the trigger and hammer on Colin's gun is NOT stock....

Yes it is a hogue, and the rest of the gun is stock!!! I just traded in my 1 year Norc Commander that was basically Mil spec 1940's for this beauty. It has been tuned up a bit by Armco, but you can feel the differance, less sharp edges, tight but smooth and the trigger is less gritty than before.

New Norc Compact 1911's

They have come a long way in the last couple years. Now if they would just get rid of the norc stamp and made in china on the side.:D

Yeah I posted on this thread with a pic of a 1st gen Norc compact that I had before. I've since acquired one of the latest versions and I must agree they've vastly improved. This one's a keeper. While it is not an Armco tuned one still it had a nice trigger pull right out of the box. All I did was detail strip it to clean out the factory lube [smelled like good ole motor oil]. I then installed an aluminum adjustable trigger, a set of double diamond hardwood stocks and new hex grip screws. Eats Fiocchi 230 gr JHP's like there's no tomorrow.
