Anyone use TNA rifle length piston

I was thinking of pulling the barrel of my Windham Arms VEX and building another 180 upper. The VEX has a 20 inch barrel. I just can't quite bring myself to tear it down for parts, yet.

The Sterling RS18 is currently finishing up final refinements and testing; it is meant as a higher quality 180 platform, and may be a better home for you VEX barrel; it comes with a rifle length piston by default.

The Jard J180 build kit, which Sylvestre Sporting Goods sells in person, over the phone, or by email, but not on their website, may also be an option; although the receiver isn't pretty, it uses a gas tube instead of a piston to apply force against the 180 recoil system, so you could use the handguard from the Vex. You would need to use a MDT "Carbine to Fixed Stock Adapter" to use your A2 stock (already used by member ABhobbyist), though the cheaper Renegade A2 adapter may also work, or you could Red/Green it like member MarathonMan and put duct tape or hockey tape around the buffer tube to thicken it enough to prevent the stock from rotating.

If you want to continue to wait a bit, SBI will be producing their own gas tube fed BCG for use with their upcoming 180 Lynx upper, as well as the WK or MCR uppers. Their lower is svelte and ergonomic, and the upper is likely to match and look good a swell, so you may want to wait on this as a Canadian-made solution that would be prettier home for your forend components and furniture from your Vex.

While I am waiting for the lynx upper the idea or a 180 upper being DI concerns me in that with the open sides the amount of gas blowback you could get may be worse then a AR.

If the SBI DI BCG uses a Stoner pseudo piston like an AR 15 or the J180, most of the gas should vent out the holes in the BCG when it is forward by the ejection port, well away from the users face. It will be interesting to see if some exhaust does come out the "pop-tart" slot, especially when it only exists on the left side for the MCR. Hopefully, it will only be a tolerable, minor amount, especially considering suppressors are not a concern up here.

Maybe I’ll wait for SBI then. I have one of their 10/22 chassis and it’s a work of art.
