CZ Shadow 2 not optics ready, can I still add Vortex Venom?

If you want to see what it would be like, buy a dovetail mount and the Vortex and try it. If you don’t like it, then you can easily put the gun back to stock. This is the style I mean (but find one for the Shadow 2 that fits the Venom):

That kind will be fine for range plinking.

Machining your slide cannot be reversed, so you should give this considerable thought. Probably best to sell your gun and buy an Optics Ready version instead.

Fwiw, I use my Shadows for competition. I have two original Shadows, and I machined the slide on one of them for an optic. A year later I bought an optics ready Shadow 2. The reason I went with those instead of the dovetail mount I linked above, was I wanted the optic as low as possible so it’s close to the height I’ve already trained for with iron sights. I didn’t want to deal with a much higher optic using a dovetail mount.

With slow fire range plinking, it just won’t matter where the dot is.

I have the Outerimpact CZ Shadow 2 Universal Red Dot Mount. It allows you to mount a variety of different red dots with the same plate. I did have to pay a gunsmith to knock the iron sights off as I did not have the correct tools (it is on pretty good). While it might be a little higher than milling the slide, I like the ability to convert the gun back to its original shape. It worked well for me, no complaints. Most open division guns with the frame-mounted red dots have a similar height and it doesn't seem to slow them down much. Might be harder to get used to initially for some though.

I was in the same predicament with my 75B new edition.
Dovetail would sit very high and ugly in my opinion. You lose the rear site so no co-witness.
Custom milling - Blackbox said they could do it - was expensive and your married to it. Also lose the rear sight as well.
I'm moving to all red dot so I sold it and bought a P320 RX with factory optic and co-witness, great bang for the buck.
If I choose to compete there's also the Walther PDP optic, Shadow 2 optic and Canik TP9SFX.

Unfortunately me asking myself doesn't mean alot, you guys are the pros

What do you want? What will your purpose be? We can say do this or that. But Ultimately its your gun. Honestly ask around and try both setups. Having milled my Shadow, and losing my rear sight, I became slower at the quick stages. When I'm plinking slow it doesn't matter. But aint like I can go out and buy a commercial made plate to change my optics. My saving grace is I had an optic plate made, so I can go back to irons if need be.

Search the pros and cons of having an optic.. As there is pros and cons with everything.

But knowing what I know now, I would changed the optic for like a DPP, Holosun or something with a rear notch built in, so I can have rear irons again.
