Educate me on chainsaws!

In my mind a saw is as good as how the owner treats it. No one other than myself or someone working with me touches my saw. It does not get loaned out.

I am more than happy with my Echo CS590 as a stock saw for what I need. I have made a few mods and tuning and it is even better.

This is one of the reasons i have held on to my old Poulan pro i got ages ago. It's heavier, less powerful and more awkward to use than my stihl, but if at any time i need to let someone use a saw i don't really care so much how they use it.

Agreed, I have a select few that I will loan a saw to. They’re all guys I work with so I know how they treat their money makers, or a couple guys in my wife’s family that have been running saws for ages and take care of their gear.

I'm more paranoid about someone getting hurt using my saw than I am about the unit itself, especially for family and their woodpiles, so I'd rather take the responsibility of running it myself.

BB I find that those that " know " how to run a saw the the ones that ruin them. They will often adjust the mixture and cook the piston. When we rent a saw they are told to sign a waver. The bone yard at work is getting full LOL

Well there’s a difference between renting and borrowing, most renters will hammer on things because they don’t want to treat their or their friend gear that way. I have friends I know will drive my vehicle with respect, yet I have watched them with rental cars and they just try to blow the vehicle up.

You have a point there. But none the less these are the " experts " and one would hope they treated the equipment better. Sadly with covid I am not getting the OEM parts anymore from a guy in the US so the boneyard just fills up. BTW got an 026, ms261 non cm and MS261 CM 2.0 for sale..

Yes you would hope they would treat equipment better, regardless of where it came from, some people have that run it till it breaks and buy another one mentality unfortunately.

The 026, 260, 261’s are great saws, I have one and it cuts beyond its size. Great power to weight ratio, wouldn’t be without one.

Ayup. Gonna be a sad day when I can no longer get what I need to rebuild the 026!

170 with a 12" bar on my quad never go anywhere without it. Nicknamed the tomato slicer.
38 is a all day saw. Large fuel tank, cuts & cuts ..... and cuts.

I ordered a new carb online for the MS170 with the Hi and Low screws.
Different saw now.
By far a gooder improvement.

I did pick up the MS291 and I'm duly impressed with what this saw has to offer in weight verses power.
Nice light saw compared to the 038.
Eats way less fuel.

038 is going to up for sale.
Maybe at our April show.................????.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wish you had posted you were looking for a carb for the 170. The best replacement is a carb from a 025 ms250 and you seal off an impulse hole. I have several 038 magnums that just sit. Too heavy for what they are. A client just bought a whole bunch of old saws in different states of disrepair so I am sure I will have some projects for the winter. So i put aside my subsonic 6.5mm plans for now.
