should I trade my Norc 1911 45 for a Tisas or RIA

I was thinking of selling my Norc 1911 and replacing it with something else like a an RIA, Ruger, Tisas (Canuck) etc. The only reason I was thinking of doing this was because the Norc feels heavy. Does anyone know if other 1911s are lighter? Mine is the sport model with a top rib and front slide serrations. It feels very heavy (possibly because of the steel?). It was tuned by Armco (great trigger, super slick slide) and might be a shame to sell it.

Any opinions would be appreciated,

Scott

I don't think I'd trade it - all steel framed 1911's (with 5 inch barrels) weigh about 39 ounces empty, give or take an ounce depending on grip material......

I've got one that has a full-length guide rod and upgraded springs - it's one of my favourite handguns.

the way yours is now do not change a thing but i preferred a canuck 1911 9mm to the norinco out of the box version.

Armco tuned Norinco 1911? Keep it!

What does yours weigh? Unless there is something unusual going on with your 1911, you won't see a significant difference with the options you're considering.

The only significant change to overall weight for 1911s comes from going to a different frame material, which is probably outside your budget. Or going to the Commander length, I suppose!

You'd get a small weight reduction (and more importantly, a change in the balance point) going to a standard length guide rod if you don't have one already.

There can also be some weight savings going to a plastic mainspring housing (again, if you don't have one already).

Kick it to the curb, and upgrade. If you enjoy the 1911A1 platform seek out an aluminum frame “Commander.” If weight is the real issue, the nice people at GLOCK make a number of outstanding 45acp pistols including the *SF* or short frame model.

The Nork is at least as good, and likely better steel. Keep it.

A couple of years ago when there were lots of new ones around, a lot of people called norks junk. Now that the new ones have dried up, everyone wants one. In the US since importation is banned, used ones bring $300-700 US. Go figure.

For Norc 1911A1's I much prefer the early plain jane models, without the ambi safety levers, extended slide stops, big blocky sites, forward slide serrations etc. The unmarked one is a classic!

A lot of custom builder prefer Nork steel.
I have a 45 built by a great smith that had his live cut short , and that is as good or better than my colts and kimbers to shoot.

Honestly, I had a 9mm for a short time; it shot fine, but I just could not get excited about it. I will never sell my Nork .45 1911; full size, target sights, satin chrome finish. I put fully checkered rosewood grips on it, and it not only shoots fine, but it is a real looker.

Based on my experience, I would go with a Nork Commander if I wanted a shorter, lighter gun; I don't.

ah ah 1911 is for some a 45 thing ... but a good 1911 9mm is great to have in my opinion but having a 45 is a must in 1911 as well ...
