I was wondering if anyone might have or know where to find a propellant profile on HiVel 2 powder.
It is not in the large Propellant Profile book that is published by Wolf Publications.
What I do know - it is close to Reloader 7 in the burn rate chart. 3031 load data minus 1 grain seems to be the norm for some cartridges - eg 30-30, 32 spc and many more but not all.

Thank you in advance. :)

HiVel2 was one of PO Ackley's favorites appx 60 years ago, for the 30-06. His first volume of Handbook for Shooters and Reloaders

has several different loads, starting at 100 grain bullets, up to 220 grain bullets.

Hercules Super Vel#2 is quite a bit faster than IMR3031 and because it is a double base powder, rather than a single base powder the pressure curve is also different.

I used a lot of that powder 50+ years ago but there are much more suitable powders out there now.

Super Vel#2 is one of the most temperature sensitive powders I've ever used. This made it awkward when trying to work up a handload during the winter, that would be used in the summer or early fall for hunting.

Look up PO Ackleys books, especially Volume 1 for data.

The only other places you're going to find data is in very early manuals or online sources.

Hi-vel #2 burning rate:

111 2015BR- Accurate
112 Reloder 7, Alliant
113 HiVel 2, Hercules
114 N134, Vihtavuori
115 R 902, RWS
116 IMR-3031, IMR

The reason that HiVel #2 was discontinued was because Hercules found out that the pressure generated by this powder actually is increasing as the temperatures get colder.

Attached are some load data from Speer Manual 6ed 1964 which describes this powder as:
"HERCULES HIVEL #2: This is the only surviving number of several old Hercules rifle powders. It has been an outstanding favorite of .30/06 Camp Perry competitors for many years."

Hope it helps.
