Ruger made Marlin 1895 SBL begin shipping today

Nice looking rifle that be. Forged, CNC machined receiver & lever(Not cast like some folks thought) & hammer forged barrel check some boxes fer me.
I'll wait till some solid reviews come in on these buggers & handle one before getting the urge to buy.

SBL new? In 2003?

I can’t remember for sure but the SBL was always around $1200 to $1300 new since Remington took over.
Yes this is quite the price jump though.

I should have specified, it was a GBL purchased in 2019. They were commonly listed at $900+ in Ontario at the time but I bought mine out west while on a road trip.

I wonder how long it will take for the U.S. to supply their demand, and the rifles start making it to Canada?.... I need an 1894 sbl 44 magnum, but there is no way I am paying $2500 for a used remlin. I'll wait for a new $2000 ruglin.

I rather like it, and will likely buy one when they become available here in Canada. For those that dont like the rail, it comes off with screws, and the threaded muzzle can be cut and the barrel re-crowned. Looks pretty faithful to the original with some well thought out upgrades or changes. My 1895 GG walnut/blued will soon have a sister!

Maybe I'm too old school but I find the pic rail and sight do not aesthetically belong on that rife. Other than that I love new improvements. Hopefully it is a smooth operator.

Correct. I'm pretty sure I paid about that, maybe a bit more, from Reliable, tax in. Lovely gun. The action wasn't as smooth as I wanted it when I bought it but it as smooth as glass now. Inflation is everywhere: "transitory but persistent." Sure.

When Remington made them , the pic rail was black

When Ruger makes the pic rail is also black

Why the heck don't they make the pic rail in stainless to go along with the rest of the gun

Noone wants a beautiful stainless lever action with a gigantic long black picatinny rail

It totally takes away from everything else visually appealing about this gun

The Pic Rails are sourced from XS sights. Probably aluminum, get it Cerakoted if you don't like it black... doing just the rail would be cheap.

The improvements look decent. But for the price of these things lately wowsers. Glad I grabbed an gbl on sale for 700$ right before Covid hit ! Someone buy one and give us a review lol

Picatinny rails are usually aluminum. That would be a lot of unnecessary weight in steel.

Aluminum shouldn't be left bare in this kind of application. You can get 'clear' anodizing but it is kind of dull and mottled and would look nasty next to the polished stainless.

For the black rail, it goes with the black butt pad, the black front post and the black fleck in the stock… also black is the most common scope and scope mount color… I’ve owned both the sbl and dark series and as soon as I can get on a list will be grabbing this as well.

As per Ruger website;

Due to Ruger's anticipation of strong demand and the limited quantity of rifles available, the company is encouraging retailers to contact their distributors for availability. Ruger also strongly advises consumers to not leave deposits with retailers who do not have confirmed shipments.
