The Remington M40-X

Buck - What scope is that you have mounted up on it ? Also have you shot it yet ? If so what does it like for a bullet - powder ? RJ

Hi RJ
I had a old Nightforce 5.5-20 that I wasn’t using.
I shot 4 different bullets, 155 Nosler, Sierra and Berger and 178 ELDX and they all shot well with D4895 - 46.5 gr/ 44.5 gr. The 155 Nosler CC were the best at 2850fps.
I used a rod/patch to check the twist. Three times I got 1-11” which I thought was weird.

This is what it was before I had the new barrel put on

Would have left it the way it was. Either way, nice looking rifle.

Hi,
Nice projects. Am thinking of a 40X in .308 myself. A buddy has one with a Shilen bbl. Appears to shoot well. Thinking hard on it to use for VFS matches.

OP,
your bolt handle is a PT&G short straight threaded handle.

Similar to the early 40X,722,721 round knob handle w/ the addition of a scallop for scope clearance.

40X(R) rimfire & centerfires have the swept 700 style handle.

Load/shoot some Sierra 165gr HPBT's in your 7.62 1:11" twist as they will shoot rings around the 168 & 175 MK's.

Any configuration 40X is chambered in 7.62, unless special ordered to be chambered in 308Win.

Thanks guys.

Thanks Dan. Good to know re the bolt handle. Will try some 165’s.
