I have a 20” 338wm and with 250gr bullets, they seem to match the book load velocity’s. I’m happy with mine
338 WM no longer listed as Sako 85 Kodiak caliber? (got 375 H&H Kodiak really like it). https://www.sako.fi/en-us/rifles/sako-85/85-kodiak
Balance and weight are especially important for a 338.
Can’t go too short or I might shoot off my bipod legs.
I will take light and short with a few less fps over long and heavy every time. I will let you know if any animals survive to complain about the slower bullet.but considerable less velocity... I thought the idea behind huge case capacity was to get the highest velocities...?

It's a factory rifle after all and Desert tech doesn't seem to have a problem finding like minded people to buy them.
Why the huge case though? Light and short I understand. The huge case in light and short I don't.
And it's more than a few fps... more like 250 fps loss over a 26 inch barrel... less than 338-06 velocities.

what is the effective range for a 338-06 on large game vs the 338 lapua in the same configuration? That is the difference. Why the huge case though? Light and short I understand. The huge case in light and short I don't.
