So how exactly can you tell if an M1C or M1D is an original or something that has been slaped together recently just to bring in bigger bucks???

M1C's are comparatively easy as the production blocks are fairly well known and researched.

All M1C's were produced by Griffin and Howe before heat treatment of the actions.

M1D's are much more of a "craps shoot", but IIRC the barrel drawing number should NOT BE VISABLE as it is located UNDER the handguard.


For any Garand sniper questions, I would check out the articles at www.jouster.com.

IIRC Major Culver was the first commandant of the Marine Sniper School and a well known Garand & sniper collector. I'm sure that Clancy MUST know him.
