US vs. Canadian P7PSP

Hi!

This is my first post. I have been directed here by a member at HKPRO.com and I have a couple of questions for you guys regarding the P7PSP.

I am a Canadian citizen with PAL (Res&Non-Res) living in USA temporarily. I just bought a P7PSP which is stated to have a 105mm barrel. However, I see that P7PSP is available in Canada and it seems to have the same barrel as the ones sold in USA.

I've talked to people at CFC about whether a P7 is legal in Canada and they asked me if my P7 had a 105 or a 106mm barrel. I had no idea that there is any difference in barrels for the police trade-ins and I thought they were all the same.

How do you guys get P7PSP in Canada? Are they any different? Please provide me with any and all the info you can. I will have to talk again with CFC and I could use any and all the info I can from you.

They are the same. I understand that the difference is in the measurement method used in Canada vs. the 'States. Here, we are instructed to put a rod as far in the barrel from the muzzle end as possible, mark the rod at the muzzle, and measure the distance from the end of the rod to the mark. In semi-autos, the barrel length includes the chamber, and since the headspace is part of the chamber, the length is 106mm.

Edit: the following comes from the application form to register a firearm on the cfc website:

Barrel Length
For firearms other than revolvers, the barrel length is the
distance from the muzzle of the barrel to and including the
chamber, but it does not include the length of any
attachments.

The barrel length of a revolver does not include the cylinder.
Measure from the muzzle up to and including the chamber
(for example, by measuring how much of the cleaning rod fits
in the barrel when the action is closed). Put an "X" in the
appropriate box to indicate the units of measurement
(millimetres or inches).

You've been very helpful! When I measured the barrel length the "Canadian Firearms Centre way" it did come up at 106mm :)

No need to buy an extended barrel for it ;)

I am not new to it. I've got a PAL and a Glock 17 ($1092 after taxes) before I moved to the States. I have sooo many nice things I will have to say 'goodbye' to when the time comes to move back :rolleyes:

Once again... THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! You've saved me from paying money for the extended barrel :)

Just out of curiosity, what stuff? Can I bring my Yugoslavian M70AB2 - actually a Century Arms International built AK with US-made receiver + trigger group + whatever else to comply with ATF regs??? If I can, I'm coming back right now :)

Thats a factory G36 IIRC. a few got into country through some mix up, and are going for quite rediculous prices (think HK416 uppers)
