Mossberg 500 action break in

Just a thought or maybe a concern, with the 500 using steel and aluminum parts is it wise to run the gun dry? I don't know but maybe someone does. My 1964 500B shows moderate wear to the aluminum from the steel action parts so I keep it well lubed.

I wouldn't worry about that. First one I ever bought was an old one with one action bar and no vent rib. Worked quite stiff. When I disassembled it it was full of cedar spills and sand. I don't think it had ever been apart. Cleaned up great and it was super smooth. Shot great

My snowblower today is a great example I am out with the 85 honda blowing snow and the guy next door who said I was crazy paying 1800 bucks for it in 85 when a craftsman was like 499 says is that the same old machine . I said yep and still going strong how many have you bought since 85 I said about 6 or 7 he says LOL
Also big difference a wingmaster would set me back 200 bucks not 1000 like today so hard for the average Joe to buy quality in 2022

Ironically I was given an old craftsman 8/28 snowblower likely manufactured from some point in the 80’s, well taken care of but used a lot. It’s a work horse, I love that old tank. Any time I’ve had to turn a wrench on it it’s been dead simple, carb clean, broken return spring, oil changes.

Same as pump actions try a honda or yahama some day and you will cut the craftsman up
I worked on them for years for sears when my mom worked there and would fix and sell at least 10 or so a year for cash until I found honda in 85
Now I have like a dozen honda's and work on them to sell for cash when I can find broken ones

Looks like a lot of hard work to me ? If a blower is not attached to a Kubota 4 wheel drive I don't want anything to do with it . I gave my buddy a single stage Craftsman 40 years ago and it is still going strong . And well worn Mossbergs can be very slick useful pumps.

Honda and Yamaha tend to make nice small power equipment, the old Craftsman is a workhorse as well. If it has a catastrophic breakdown it’s going to be a sad day, they don’t make them like this anymore.

I have a Sears Craftsman single stage as well. It's quite old. It has a Briggs and Stratton motor and it never seems to break! I change the oil every 5 years with semi-synthetic. :)
 
Mine was given to me by a lady in town, her dad bought it new and used it for years till it became to much for him to operate. I have the original bill of sale and some other receipts plus the operators manual. It’s a tank, still throws a 15-20’ rooster tail of snow.
 
I haven't been back to this thread for a while. Thanks to all for your feedback. Have put about 150 rounds of target loads through it and it's much smoother already. I'm a light oiler anyway so certainly fairly dry. I also didn't clean it for the first 3 weeks of use... nothing like some extra grit rolling around in there!
