Hi all

Seen today at Shot Show is the WK180C Gen 2

From the looks of it we can see that there is:

Upper
- A new gas piece that replaces the gas screw & cup with a single extended banjo bolt for easier dissasembly and removal
- A rear captive pin (one of 2)
- A non reciprocating left side charging handle (finally CH issues be gone!)
- An approx 15' MLOK handguard
- A C clip is being placed in front of the gas block to prevent movement

Lower
- A new bolt hold open/release that can be actuated with the shooter's thumb
- A front captive pin
- A rounded lower
- A squared off magwell
- New standard safety allows installation standard AR safetys so 45 or 60degree throw safeties
- Reduced receiver width to allow for use of AR trigger pins
- Possibly better able to receive AR trigger packs

No changes to the trigger from what I saw but we can all fix that ourselves.

FRT remains the same, this is the same firearm.

Price? Likely to be matching the WS-MCR with these changes

Those optics POSP and PO are great choices for mouse guns.
Fixed four power, good glass and eye relief, solid enough to club baby seals, comes with an AR appropriate height weaver mount included in the price, cheap 2032 batteries. You can even use the chevrons for 5.56 once you figure out what range they're appropriate for.

Back on topic, I wonder if the changes will hit the price point?

So hopefully the gas system modifications will not only make the firearm easier to maintain, but it should also reduce some of the wear and tear on the firearm, which has been known to be hard on the firearm's parts in the past.

Does anyone know if they will be indexing the gas block in place with some kind of projection, or using thread locker on the block's fasteners going forward, to prevent it from loosening, rotating out of place, and eventually causing the piston to snap under the torsion stress?

The support for beavertail pistol grips and the straight angle magwell are nice additions!

Excellent! Between the C clip and the reduced gas, hopefully this will eliminate the snapping piston problem people have noted. Would people be able to buy the new gas system to retrofit to their old WKs?

With the non-reciprocating charging handle, the gentler gas system, and the better secured gas block to prevent stress on the piston, hopefully the WK will now much more dependable. Only time will tell, but there is now hope :)

I wonder if I could send my wobbly out of the box rig right back to them and have them put that rear pin in. An o-ring seems like such a cheap solution it bugs me. And of course I just got mine last week and now this post. I would have waited had I known :(

Well I had an early one and converted it with a MRA barrel and RWA mid length op rod and it made a noticeable difference. It was no longer trying to eat itself apart.

Maybe smaller port sizing on the carbine length system could have achieved the same result. New ones seem to be working better so perhaps they've already done that?
 
Looks stellar compared to the previous version. Hopefully this one fixes the 1) piston breakage, 2) charging handle breakage, and 3) bolt face breakage.

It seems like its possible to add a dust cover and brass deflector but for some reason still missing them...
 
two observations - it looks like the upper is still open to the elements on the left side, even with the non-reciprocating charging handle? and you can't use the external bolt catch to drop the bolt on an empty mag (it would hit the upper receiver?)?

It it significant as most replacement or aftermarket .223 AR barrels that would keep it non-restricted are going to be rifle length gas, and the fact that rifle length is far superior - adjustable gas block or not.
