I had an issue with my new Savage minimalist .22. I contacted the service department in Lakefield Ontario. The service was EXCELLENT. They sent me a UPS tag and paid the shipping to and from Lakefield. The work was completed very promptly and my rifle is heading home after repairs and verifying everything was in A1 condition. I would not hesitate to buy another savage or recommend a Savage 22.

Great to hear! I've had a few Savage bolt guns and they have all been problem free and very accurate for the price. Before the price increase, they dominated the 'production class' for rimfire PRS here in Canada.

what dominates production class now?

I believe its Squires Bingham but Ive consumed a fairly large quantity of Jack Daniels!! Its still Savage B22s from the shoots Ive participated in. The salary caps on guns and optics have risen so maybe therell be others in the near future. Hope my poor humour doesnt PYO. Just trying to make people laugh and smile.

CZ or Tikka would be the ones that most people are buying, but I haven't looked to see if they are actually 'winning', still lots of Savages out there.

LOL! Cheers!

I just picked up a never fired B22 stainless with heavy barrel, from another user so no warranty I suppose. I tested with live rounds to see how feeding and ejecting goes. feeding fine although the mag's rear end seem to sit lower than the front and if not pushed up from below, not all rounds get picked up. I can live with that. But ejecting was bad too. I took the bolt apart, took the extractors out and noticed the left extractor (the one with blunt nose) is very tight in the channel and won't move by strength of the spring. Turns out the extractor is bent slightly so it sits very tight in the extractor channel of the bolt. This seems like it should be a simple fix, either hammer it gently to make it straight or file it to make it flatter. Anyway, looks like the Savages coming out of the Lakefield plant have issues that seem simple enough to remedy, they just should not be happening at all if proper quality control was applied. Also, I hate the finish on the stainless parts. It scratches so easily and looks awful. I think I will call Lakefield plant and see if they can send me new extractors, spring and the cocking pin which already shows wear. I noticed the top of the cocking ramp on the bolt, the ridge on the top where the pin slides over into a notch so it would not drop back easily seems to have two sharp pointy edges. I think I will dremel it slightly to put a bit of rounded angle and this way the cocking pin will slide over a smoother ridge. I am pretty sure these issues have been going on for years and years and Savage never really addressed them properly.

Very easy fixes for the B22. I straightened up the extractor, now it moves freely in the channel, slightly rounded off the notch on top of the cocking ramp/cam, smoothed out sharp edges on the bolt and now it is smooth as butter, no grinding sounds when working the bolt at all. I will still ask the Lakefield customer support for the spare parts. Either way, those things should have been addressed by quality control before the rifle leaves the plant. Never ever did I have similar issues with a CZ.

Jabol, Good that you did those thing. BTW - The B22 costs HALF what the cheapest CZ does, whaddya expect? They are 'common' probs with B22s, even YT-vids on them. Evidently you didn't research the gun. I have an A & B22 and no probs with mags in either, and the 25s work fine in both too. I found that inserting the mag 'Front first' with a slight angle ensured it was mounting properly, but neither of mine are SS, so maybe there's an issue there ? There are threads here and on Savageshooters and Rimfirecentral on lightening the trigger pull on both of these, tho the A22 is a cra- trigger group. Mainly I took the B22 group apart, polished friction points and did the 'red-hot' T-spring mod to get a smooth 1.4# pull. The same 'hot spring' on the A only gets to about 2.5# because the safety spring needs a certain amount of tension to reset the hammer/sear. See 'Fasteddie01' on RFC & SS.
Good luck on your problems with Savage - I tried to get Lakefield and constantly got US-Savage until I found an 'old number' for direct dial, not an 800.
US Customer service used to be great, but now goes thru a call center (I think) that doesn't seem to be actually Savage ?
Best wishes

I hope OP can resolve his issues too. Sorry for highjacking your thread. Would you mind sharing your contact info with the Lakefield Savage? I only have the 1-800 number.
I knew what I was getting into when buying B22. I've had Mark II before and although generally fun to shoot, I never had one single issue with CZ so I tend to stick to those. The B22 was intriguing to me as reportedly it was a new design arguably with many improvements over the Mark II. I find the bolt pretty much the same, I much more prefer the B22 bolt handle though. Too bad they continued with the same flimsy two piece blot/extractor/retaining spring/exposed firing pin design of the bolt. The cone shaped breach is interesting. The bolt face also has this conical recess to accommodate the cone shaped breach. I also find the trigger nice and light and breaks clean without creep. Over all it was a good buy. And as OP says the service is top notch then no complaints there.
