This came into our store and was slated to be deactived. Picked up a new barrel for it and it's almost ready to come home with me.

My vote would be for a complete refurb OP. Make her look and feel the way she did coming out of the factory in '43.

Nice work OP! Those guns are works of art.
Is it better to re-barrel or keep as is? Making it restricted allows it to be used or sold by RPAL holder so to me that’s real value. Is there any advantage to keeping it stock? I understand the prohib licence is almost impossible to get now.
We have a prohib Luger in the family. It will likely be changing owners soon. There’s a low key debate simmering already at the dinner table about whether it can be saved as is or if it must be re-barrelled. The direct heir has an RPAL but not a 12/6.

Then the direct heir can inherit under the 12.7 clause. I have a Luger with the original barrel length and both original mags that I inherited from my father in law (registered to my wife first then to me). And it is on my ATT to the club so I can take it to the range with no issues.

They can be passed while the owner is alive. Moreover the 12.6 owner can buy more 12.6 guns and pass them on too. So every heir can theoretically have a luger of their own, and a ppk and whatever strikes their fancy that's pre 1946.

Just be careful that once the 12.6 owner passes the last 12.6 to an heir, he will lose 12.6 status and can never get it back.

My FIL never owned a luger or any 12.7 qualifying guns originally, I simply funded him buying some and he transferred them to my wife after enjoying them a little bit.
