I throw my empty powder containers away, sometimes after shooting them full of 22 holes.I see them in the WTS and WTB ads on the EE. For the life of me I can't figure why you buy them ? Can somebody 'splain to me.

Thanks!

Maybe keep them, obviously there's a market for them. I keep a few on hand, sometimes it's handy to have as I mainly buy powder in 8lb jugs but prefer a 1lb can on the bench

I definitely keep my kegs and drums. Gives me somewhere to put bulk bagged powders... As for buying them, postage would make it pretty expensive. Local deal for cheap could make a lot of sense for a lot of people.

Well, I got a whole bunch given to me. I keep my powder coating powder in them.because the cans have the same threads as my powder coating gun.

I would never pay for them nor would I charge thems that need em

they make nice containers for pistol bullets.you can put quite a few 9mm rounds in one.remove the labels and affix your own label with reload info.

some people transfer powder from steel containers.

I prefer to buy 8LB and split it into 5 containers. Easier to handle the 1lb container then the 8lb one. There isn't a lot of value to it. I would definitely never pay for one.

Who knows .... one man's trash is another man's treasure.

I either recycle them or re-purpose them (they make fantastic tannerite containers ...especially the 8 lbs jugs)

personally I like the rectangular IMR cans over the plastic jugs. So I keep those ones the plastic jugs when they get empty get chucked into the scrap pile unless I am saving them to refill from the 8Lb jug.

I guess there are people that will buy anything

I keep them to break up the powder that comes in those beautiful big cardboard boxes that Higginson ships. (back when they still had bulk powders in stock and hopefully will again in the future)

Also, the plastic powder jugs are perfect for making ice and snow shields for padlocks.

If you buy an 8-pounder, split it up into 1lb containers to keep the moisture content consistent. I've been told that opening and closing the large container excessively will dry out the powder over time, changing the burn rate.

I'd agree, but the old steel cans/tins are too hard to find nowadays. I use them for storing powder leftover from reloading sessions, I can't keep all my 8 lb jugs in the house legally.

Why didn't I think of that? 'Cause the light cardboard boxes, or plastic bags they now come in, aren't worth a hoot!

Where do you buy bulk black powder?
Currently can’t get bulk for awhile. We where getting Goex but due to plant being closed that screwed us. There currently limiting amount sold at the two places that we delt with so no bulk available. Fireworks company and movie firearm/supply company. Black powder is currently in short supply around here.

it is cheaper to buy 8lb jugs but in a multi-unit dwelling the law only allows....

The maximum quantity of smokeless powder that may be stored at any one time in a dwelling other than a detached dwelling, or in a storage unit attached to a dwelling other than a detached dwelling, is
  • (a) 20 kg, if all the smokeless powder is in containers that hold no more than 1 kg; or
  • (b) 5 kg, if any of the smokeless powder is in a container that holds more than 1 kg.

I picked up some Frontier bullet from Double Tap many years ago. The bullets were crap but it didn't make any difference at the time cause I was shooting at Target. The upside is that they came in a nice solid rectangular blue box. I've repurposed them for my pistol bullets. They'll hold an entire bag of 45ACP or 9mm. I have not try the other calibers.

That's a great idea to store the bulk bullets in them. I've got a bunch of bags of campro bullets that are kinda a pain to handle/store
I always used to just toss them away. I have one that I put spent primers in and its almost full so need to get rid of it somewhere
