Shoulder dents

[New Camper]

I get shoulder dents sizing my 6.5 Creedmoor brass. I use sizing wax on the case moderately with my fingers and don't have this happening with any other cartridge. I notice my creed has less body taper than my 260 remington. Is this significant? Should I start to hate my creed? Is something funny with my die? Not sure what is going on here

About the only thing needs adding to the advice about no lube on shoulder or outside neck is YES to the bold text.... assuming you refer to the CM not a sound and moral basis for life. Not sure if they ever got anyone trampled by an elephant or eaten by a lion, but low body taper in cases still is not a highly desirable feature: sure it permits the most powder capacity in a given length and head diameter, but case taper achieves a few worthy goals.

Nothing wrong with the Creed case. Dirty die, ( lube buildup ) and or too much lube. Don’t listen to Camper… the round is solid.

I use sizing die wax and lube anything that needs movement by constriction. In other words, do not lubricate the shoulder. I have not dented a shoulder or stuck a case ever. And clean your dies.

I will clean it next time. It's a redding die. I don't think it has a vent

Redding dies do NOT have a vent hole. If you speak to Redding about dents, they will tell you dies don't need vent holes and to use less lube.

I've had trouble with shoulder dents and Redding dies over the years. Cleaned out the dies completely, lube only the body....still dents sometimes when resizing. I've been unable to figure it out.

I cleaned my die, although I had not used it much. I almost never clean my dies in other calibres. Problem solved for now

Most cases have a good amount of body taper allowing the case lube to flow upward in the die. Wipe the shoulder and neck off removing the excess lube and the dents should disappear.

I don't put liquid lube on the neck or shoulder

I used to have this problem with using the RCBS water based lube that came with my Cabela's RCBS reloading package..... water based for personal use ? Maybe ! Otherwise, water based lubes that resemble KY Jelly belong in the trash!

But for reloading applications, I switched to Imperial sizing wax and the dented shoulders went away.

Last year ditched the sizing wax and gone to 1 part Lanolin to 10-11 parts 99% isopropyl alcohol. This probably where I will stay for evermore... its as consistent as sizing wax and goes on super fast. Just spray it on some cases in a dollar store lasagna disposable tray.

I use RCBS case lube 2. No problems.
