I've just seen this for the first time and find it quite interesting. I'm trying to find out what kind of shell this is so I'm hoping someone can help. Is the 16 the date? And what is the shell size?

The base measures 3 3/8" and the height is 6 3/4". It took forever to try and post those two pictures so it's easier to measure. Sorry, I should have thought to give the dimensions and to include something to show scale.
