I went to the range with my brother-in-law on Christmas day for some target shooting. I purchased 500 Wolf .45 lead bullet reloads and was on my last 100 or so when I had three failure to fires. It definitely wasn't the gun as you could see the firing pin mark on all three primers, well except for one, there was a hole in the casing caused by the firing pin since the primer was missing. I found the primer on the booth counter top. I guess it had fallen out? This isn't too bad considering this never happened on the first 300-400 bullets. Anyone else have this problem with the Wolf reloads from Kingston? Also, are FMJ more reliable than lead? Not for this particular problem but in general.

Thanks In Advance :D

Wolf reloads have a good reputation but like anything, you can get some bad ones.

FMJ more reliable than lead ? I assume that you mean as far as feeding into the chamber. Reliable feeding is much more a function of the design of the bullet rather than what is is made from. Also having a smooth feeding ramp makes a big difference.

The " classic " 45acp is a 230 grain roundnose . Great feeding . Wadcutters & semi wadcutters can be fussy.

Thank you sir!

Never tried the .45 auto but I will say that I found some old boxes of 9mm hollowpoints from Wolf at my local store. $8 / box, how could one go wrong? Easy, EVERY SINGLE ROUNDS WAS A FTF. I'm not exaggerating either, it was absolutely every singe round. I thought it was my gun so I switched with my buddy and his G17. Same thing.

2 guns, same ammo, all FTF's? there was something wrong.

With that being said, I did buy a case of .40SW at the same time (Wolf - JHP) and I have never had a problem with those. I did however find 3 rounds with fubar'd primers in the case and I also found a casing with a huge chunk pulled off of it from an extractor.

It's hit or miss, as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it again.

Wolf reloads

Just went through a hundred 9mm Wolf reloads with no problems. I have had some issues with anything but 230 gr round nose with my 45's. I also discussed this matter with Colinjw who had some helpful hints. Since then all 45 is round nose jacketed with no problems.

I've shot Wolf reloads in 40S&W but found it very dirty. You could see a cloud of black smoke come out the muzzle.

I wouldn't buy it again, even though it is a bit cheaper.

Wolf reloads

I have shot tens of 1000's of wolf reloads with no more problems than factory.
They include 38,357,40,45,44 handgun and rifle ammo

but anything can happen???? Knew a fella said his 45 230fmj Wolf reloads wouldn't cycle ?? mtried 3 mags flawless < he was limp wristing it

so who know????

I've shot a few thousand rounds of .45LC, 250gr. LRNFP from my Ruger Vaqueros and my 1866 Uberti Yellow Boy, with far fewer problems than any of the Winchester Cowboy loads I formerly used.
I've had a couple of mis-fires in the Yellow Boy that may have been more a problem of me not cleaning the bolt etc sooner than I should have.
I've only fired about 500 rounds of Wolf's .45ACP in my 1911, but I've had no problems there.
I would buy his stuff again with no hesitation.:)

I tired Wolf 45 ACP 230 grn FMJ, 200 Grn SWC and 230 Grn LRN and never had a problem, even his 9mm and 40 S&W ammo. Shooting S&B 115 Grn 9mm ( factory ) was more dirty then any of the Wolf ammo I tired... I shot a match with my Chrome slide Glock 34 and my muzzle was black, chamber inside and out was black and my rifling looking like someone took a file to it....

I tried their .45 Colt lead bullet loads and they all functioned fine. The bullets they used were a diff. story, 1 small gr. groove, some very hard waxy lube that did not act on the barrel, recovered bullets had all the lube still in the grooves. I guess they use this lube more for shipping then shooting, the bullets can be sent loose and they will not make a mess by getting lube all over.....this does not however, help with leading in your barrel.

I have shot there reloads and reloaded thousands and had no leading in my guns. Did you have leading in yours?
