Alright folks, I think it’s time for another friendly SKS Honor Match based on Ardent's great match from last year. We have both new SKS owners and SKS owners with new acquisitions so it should be fun!

As last year’s self proclaimed winner ;) I propose and challenge everyone to another go around. Since there are those on the board that slag the SKS' accuracy I suggest Ardent's same rules..This would function on the honor system.

-SKS ONLY, ANY MODEL AS LONG AS IT'S AN SKS, MODIFIED'S FINE AS LONG AS IT RETAINS STOCK OPEN SIGHTS

-BEST 5 ROUND GROUP AT 100 YARDS, AS MANY TRIES BEFORE DEADLINE AS YOUR HEART DESIRES

-OPEN, STOCK IRON SIGHTS ONLY

-ANY 7.62X39 AMMUNITION YOUR HEART DESIRES

-BENCH RESTED OK, NO "LEAD SLED" TYPE RESTS OR RETURN TO BATTERY RESTS

-ANY TARGET OF YOUR CHOICE

-TAKE A PIC OF YOUR RANGE AND YOUR TARGET IF POSSIBLE, IT'S GOOD FOR CONFIRMATION AND IT'S NICE TO SEE THE RANGES ANYHOW, IF YOU'RE CAMERALESS IT'S ALL GOOD YOU CAN STILL PLAY

NOTE: IF THERE ARE SCOPED SHOOTERS THEN THROW 'EM IN AS WELL, WE WILL HAVE A SECOND CLASS FOR SCOPED RIFLES (just to see if the groups are any better)

How does that sound? (Suggestions? let me have them)
Cheers

In a moment of STUPIDITY I sold my SKS(got into Black rifles),but I,ll borrow my freinds,So I'am in.

Whens the dead-line for this???

Glad to see you can make it :)
You'll have to pick another SKS up then, maybe one of the Russians coming in soon ;)
As far as deadlines go let's leave it open for now, the last match was extended a couple of times to get more shooters.....the more shooters the merrier :)

Cheers

First Challenger!

Well I was able to get out for a bit today, a great way to end 2007!
I trudged through 2 feet of snow to my favorite wooded ‘people free’ area to shoot a few groups.
My first three groups sucked (green yellow red) as you can see and point of impact was definitely influenced by the position of the bayonet. There was a decent group measuring 4 ¾” and ONE came out fairly good at 2 ¼”. You’ll probably call BS on this…I would have called BS on myself ;) but all other rounds were accounted for and already marked. It is actually the group I fired the fastest, just like last year and it was this group I finally remembered the sighting trick I had figured.
BTW:Ammo was Czech surplus green crate.

The weird part is that it is exactly the same group size and almost the same distribution as the group from last year….

Anyway that is a start to this match…hope to get out again soon and to see more postings.

LOL no its nothing like that.
It''s not really a trick per say, just something that works for me to allow me to see front and rear sights AND target all infocus .....it may just be how my eyes work (or don't work ;) )
First off the issue sights on the SKS are anything but fine and don;t allow a really detailed sight picture for me . I am left eye dominant and amshooting right handed, so I find that if I use my right eye the sights tend to blur a bit but if I open both eyes then everything is in focus for a short time before I start to lose track of the front sight. So what I do is line everything up with one eye and then open both to confirm I have the best sight picture then make any fine adjustment and fire. For me it makes a noticeable difference..but then again I have bad eyes and astigmatism too. :p

Cheers

Just waiting on some reloadable cases. Going with cast bullets to offset my ageing eyes. Real men shoot cast anyways. Jacketed is so 20th Century.

Take Care

Excellent idea.

Rules question: I have a scoutscopes.com scout mount on my SKS. The rail is removeable, though, and the mount base has a notch in it that allows it to act as a rear sight.

Will that allow me to enter the iron sights side of the match, or am I stuck with entering scope only?
