Good day, if this is not the proper place for this post I'll beg forgiveness ahead of time mods. Mea Culpa.

If it's fine to stay, I'm wondering if anyone can educate me on what I believe to be a WW1 era (1914-1918) MkII Brodie Helmet. I paid $20Usd for it so I don't really have any investment into it, but I am hoping I did alright on it. Feel free to comment if I didn't.

I'm curious if the sand paint is original to the helmet.

I'm also wondering if I should get a repro chin strap and liner for the helmet, and if so, where on earth would I find such a thing?

Any insight on my tin hat is welcome.

TIA, Painkillers https://www.ebay.ca/itm/134006123964

Check out the Commonwealth helmets (and just about everything else at the Collectors Guild for insight and info on Mk 1 helmets. The chinstrap is half there as it goes right around the inside of helmet with a rivet securing it at the top. A excellent book on Canadian helmets is Tin Lids by Roger Lucy (an interesting fellow who helped Americans get out of Iran way back in time). Anyways check out these and no doubt someone, some where is reproing the missing head band and bottom half of the chin strap, or just keep searching eBay. I would recommend NOT making the helmet "better" by repainting, clean up what is there, replace what is missing and start collecting..........and buy the book.

I am looking at redoing the liner and chinstrap on a Cdn. WWII version. It will remain in 'wall hanger' status for now. There are refitment options that do not include IMA and their limited marginal quality offerings.

I've found these guys out of the U.S. Kinda pricey, but I'm to understand these are accurate recreations of what the guys were using back then...except for the asbestos. Lol. https://www.pflco.com/

I would prefer a Canadian option, but a U.S. one is acceptable to me.

Thank you for the links, very helpful. I wouldn't dream of repainting it...I may however put an appropriate liner and chin strap in it though. I can repurpose the buckles on the chin strap to keep it as age accurate as possible.

I was looking at their stuff. There are a few other outfits on the www.
