6.5 caliber resales

It's really popular, the Creedmoor stuff is the only thing that's still consistently on the shelves. I was just at the local Cabela's and aside from .223, some .204, and a little .243, most of the rest of the ammo was 6mm and 6.5mm Creedmoor. There was NO .270, 7mm Rem Mag, and only a couple boxes of .308 (Sako TRG) and .30-06 (also Sako). No 300 Win Mag, no Weatherby aside from Nosler-loaded .257. Crazy.

Anyways, anyone getting in to guns with the big popularity boom of 6.5s is in slick situation - light kicking guns that are accurate and fun to shoot and do a number on medium game, what's not to love? Don't matter to me if it's a Swede, Creedmoor, PRC, or Weatherby, they're all pretty sweet. Okay, the 6.5-300 is a bit much for me, but the rest are great.

I was also at Cabelas in Winnipeg recently and as Mikey B said, pretty slim pickings. Still trying to find more Hornady 6.5 143 gr ELD-X bullets, been looking online but none to be found anywhere in Canada that I’m aware of. Lots of ELD-M target bullets but not the X variety. That being said though, I still love my Sauer 100 in 6.5x55 Swede and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

So far, I have resisted buying a 6.5 CM because I have a 6.5x55 Swede, a 6.5x55AI, and a 260 Remington.
Pretty well covers the 6.6 bases, I would say. Oh yes, a 264 Win Mag is a 6.5 as well. Dave.

I was late getting a Creedmore but so far can't find ammo local but truth is haven't looked hard either. It will be there till I do. I also read every word Jack O" Conner wrote from the day one almost and finally ended up with a couple brand new 270's which I swore would never own. So far found two part boxes of shells the LGS had from trade ins. New stuff isn't on the shelf either but it will and the guns will be there.

if I bought a 6.5 caliber it would be the 264 win magnum. 26 Nosler or the 6.5 x300 Weatherby. I like speed demons. lol.

I have a Swede 6.5 and a 6.5x300 so I am good, My Son and I took a younger first time hunter [20 years] out for Mule Deer this past fall, I had met and talked to Him over a few evenings prior to the season, He showed up the first day with a Ruger Precision in 6.5 Creedmoor[not my advice] we walk a lot, so after three days of 10 K plus hikes in fairly rough country He shot His Deer on the fourth morning, standing shot under a 100 yards one shot down and dying, but He did finish it with one more to the head. It kills deer fine.

Sold three years ago, and regretted it. I have two now, and they are staying here.

I had my 2 Swedes up for sale a few years ago and pulled the ads after a couple days, cold feet. Glad I did though. And just before Christmas I jumped on a beautiful Winchester 70 XTR Sporter in 6.5x55 Swede....looks like I'm fully committed to the caliber now!

In the beginning I had a M38 Sweedish Mauser Bolt action (shorter barrel / bent bolt) infantry numbers matching all over the place - it was stolen from me for $100.00 I didn't know what I had at the time.

There was a big rush a couple yrs back where everyone was buying a 6.5CM. It is a very well designed case that has a lot of factory ammo and rifles support. some at very good prices.

A lot of those rifles you see on the EE are from folks who got caught up in the trend only to realize a couple yrs down the road that their trusty 270/308/30-06/etc/etc/etc will do just exactly the same thing as the CM will do for the type of hunting they still do. Many of those sellers are not LR shooters so what difference does it really make if it's a 6.5CM or a 308?

While I do not own a 6.5CM, I do think it is one of the very best chamberings out there for Joe Avg deer hunter, whether he is a LR shooter or not.

What chamber are you shooting the Swede in? If it's a 96, I only neck size beyond the first 'fire forming' shot in my 96. By not full length resizing, I don't trim my Swede brass any more than ones from a modern chamber.

I have a Ruger #1 and a T3X in the swede. I keep the loads separate, I find both work better when I full length size, brass life is still very good with the PRVI cases, I have just noticed the 6.5 creed brass doesn't seem to stretch much.

If I were to go back into that middle-class of caliber, I'd source another Swede, go the 260/260AI route or possibly a 25-06 over the 6.5 Needmore :stirthepit2:

I am not a 6.5 anything caliber hunter but noticed today how many people, have their 6.5's guns up for resale 13 right now! has the glamor wore off? Just seems I see them come up a lot? Wondering what's up?

A lot of people affected by the OIC thought they were going to jump into Long range. Pair that with ammo shortages and what is required to get any rifle up to LR shooting a lot of it was impulse purchase and now buyers remorse. Also a reason i find so many are for sale is also because they are asking to much for what they have.

The 6.5, most particular, the 6.5x55 Swedish has been conceived since 1894 A.D., I'm sure that there have been some resales, hence, accompanied with other calibers.;)
