Check out the cartridge Kilmer is pumping into the Lee-Speed! Sure looks like a .303 Epps,,, improved. Pretty good for 1898 eh! I wonder who the guy was that leant his rifle to the movie crew was..

She's a Long Lee. Kind of like the Lee Metford. Mine has the dust cover like that and the mag cut off. Hopefully it will shoot better than 16MOA when I am done with it!

There was one like this at the Calgary show a couple years back, the stock was oil finished with real buffalow forend tip and the express sight. It had the five shot mag and for an Enfield it looked very pretty. It was stamped "Officer's Model" instead of the usual model on the reciever and no date. Had to be pre war.

One of my favorite movies by the way. :)

The book is far better, Remington (Michael Douglas) didn't exist in the real story.
I have a speed lee just like that one that was sporterized by "William Moore and Grey" nicely engraved but the buffalo horn cap has been lost over the years.
It shoots 3" groups at 100 with open sights, I'm pretty happy with that.....best I can do.

Well, if you ever must sell that old girl PM ME FIRST!

Thanks for the compliments and the offer but I hope I never have to sell her.

There was a similar one at the Perth Gun Show last April, if it is there again this spring I will let you know. I chatted with the guy for a while as his had been redone and it looked just like Val's in the movie, great shape.

Cheers

You must consider that many of these trade rifles were made this way as new and are not sporterised. There is a growing collectors field in sporting rifles. I myself am considering going this way and expanding my collection as I dont really want more military rifles. I can hunt deer with nice trade sporting rifles.

I read it actually. But the whole movie came from only a few pages out of the book. But the whole book was excellent, unfortunatly it's been years since I've read it. I cannot for the life of me remember who wrote it. Anyone?

The Man Eaters of Tsavo by Lt. Col. J. H. Patterson
Then reprinted in the 1985 with Capsticks library of African Books.
I am fortunate enough to have a copy of both, found at gunshows.
I would be happy to lend the Capstick version if anyone would like to borrow it but not the original, I read it once and put it away.

Cheers
