This one is special...it's a Unicorn! I scored a tired, old looking one in 6.5 x 54...forgot to take the WTB ad down immediately got another one... in 7.62 x 39! Since I lost my SKS on a canoe trip....I have all these 1000's rds of ammo...this is cool.
My camera sucks, and other than function... I can't sound off. Was just too Windy to do anything than step out on the deck and enlarge a mudhole in the front yard by running the enbloc til it dropped out the bottom. So no range report.
But I know Andy wants to see a picture or two, so grainy or not... here you go.
The OEM version in 6.5 x 54.

This one isn't nearly as nice as the M43 tweaked one...almost a different grade.

Down to the good stuff... the conversion
No stub barrel here, a Lee Enfield bbl recut to Carcano threads.

An aluminum block with machined feed ramp, fills up the missing 15mm length between the 6.5 x 54 and the 7.62 x 39... this is the ticket, because it works with USSR fodder. If only it had a shorter bolt throw... that extra 15mm of Bolt throw really hampers it in functioning...:nest:

The enblocs are easy to load and use that I can tell

Beauty to shoot. The M43 cartridge has no recoil and no noise... looks like a good job on the chamber...fired rounds look pretty much exactly the same.
The Rail type rear sight is unusual to say the least... but the sight radius ( and sights ) on these units leaves much to be desired. So a aimpoint or Red-dot of some sort comes to mind... this will be a monster of a bush gun...short, handy with a 200 yard cartridge.
But does someone make a holo / red dot style sight that looks 'Trad' as the British folk might say? Or does everything in that type look like it belongs on an M4 in the Sandbox?
The M43 version has a well functioning Double set trigger...OEM, not so much. A double set trigger on a fast moving bush carbine...WTH? It is what is though.
I'm happy and will be sure to post a better posting when I get home for Break-up. See how it actually groups on paper.

Try a shield red dot sight, very small, almost looks like a little peep. Hard to find mounts for.

I had one of these, it was in rough shape but it seemed like some real craftsmanship went into it. I wouldn’t mind picking one up in really good shape

Good find! Thanks for sharing.

Which barrel a No.#4 or #1 MKIII ? I have a couple spares I was having the same idea.Be nice to have one take detachable mags.

Looks as if a No. 4 barrel was used. .303 barrels have been used for 7.62x39 conversions without a reamer. The forward part of the .303 chamber is close enough to the 7.62x39 profile that it can be used as-is. I haven't tried it - I have a 7.62x39 reamer. I have never machined a Carcano shank, always used the breech collar made from the original barrel when the rifles were sported 80 odd years ago, turning and threading the .303 barrel to fit that. The M43 cartridges do fit the 6.5 chargers. I have cut back and re-machined a LE barrel to convert a LE to M43.
Someone mentioned a detachable magazine. Maybe one from the CZ sporter could be adapted.

I think I'll leave well enough alone. It works dandy and I've got 2 en blocs now...10 more in the mail.
It's been written the magazines are the toughest part to get right on a rifle...this one works well. I'll live with it...thanks for the suggestion though.

I went with a Vortex Venom from Hunt's Hunting supplies in Gull Lake Sask...shameless blurb only because it's a good shop owned / run by a Good guy.
Could have gotten it a tad cheaper online I suppose...but every so often you have to drop a little extra to ensure the LGS survives.
I will confess to liking the look of the unit. A conventional type with a 30mm tube would likely do a better job... but this gonna be a fast moving bush carbine... don't want a tube type all high and proud like a Tom Turkey with his head up high.
Will take more practice to master this one...3 MOA dot. But, hey... got crates of ammo to spare since the canoe accident with the SKS.

More into the Optic than the carbine LoL

I have 2 carcanos right now looking for a new owner. One sporterized the other in military spec. Youre giving me ideas i dont need lol. The set trigger on the sporter when set is ridiculously light
