Interesting article by Stephen Rinellas brother Matt

I heard him talk about this on the podcast

I have no social media and have taken two “trophy pics” in my life (black bear king of the internet), he sounds like my kind of guy.

Also liked his take on Joe Rogan, soon every moron with a grade ten education that worships him is going to be scouring the hills for elk with a 300 win mag “ cannon”

There was very little interesting about that article. Yes, there are some ######s on social media that make us look bad. But that's not what has Matt's backside chapped. He's mad that he sees vehicles at the trailhead and that sometimes he can't get the tags he wants. He's held an anti R3 sentiment for years now for no other reason than he's a self-centered, greedy prick. He doesn't care about the future of hunting, he cares about the future of his hunting.

I sort of got that sense as well. He makes some good points about the ugly side of hunting posts on social media but seems to either discount or overlook entirely some of the positive aspects: off the top of my head I can think of a couple. I've learned an awful lot from other's pictures and posts here and elsewhere and that has made me a better hunter. I didn't grow up in a hunting family and my circle of friends and family contain few people who hunt - when I post about hunting it invites questions and discussions which leads to understanding. The same can be said about firearms.

They already are, and thats the problem he's talking about.

Rogan, Hanes, Jocko, Dudley all hunting private ranches together shooting 350"+ bull elk, making it look easy while forgetting to mention the $20,000usd price tags. Hanes shooting 4 bull elk per year for social media content, keep hammering (on private ranches)

Aron Snyder of Kifaru shoots a lot of animals per year for social media content and he even admits they have so much game meat his wife has to give some away to her real estate clients.

.

Are those guys always hunting private ranches? If they are, they sure fooled me. They make it seem like they're knocking down huge bulls on public land. Even Hanes makes it seem like he's doing it basically in his back yard (Oregon wilderness). Social media is definitely a deceptive place for the viewers.

See it so often on Instagram, Mostly Americans , But the amount of "advertising" or having to hash tag every single hunting company looking for endorsements"

I unfollow them right away when it feels like I'm watching a TV show and their damn advertising.

Always reminds me of Jim Shockley when he says "I trust my life with blah blah blah(endorsement), And you should too"

Shockey to me is the one of the originals when it comes to promo plugs in the shows and that line always irked me too. I will say though compared to a lot of the shows anymore it is pretty mild. I find myself enjoying his 1 hour adventure hunt episodes more than most of the other content out there.
