Hi all - Any tips on where to find a safety replacement rear aperture sight for the Rossi R92 1892 clone? It's a nifty contraption, screws into the hole left on the top of the bolt after you remove the safety switch.

I had one years ago from StevesGunz and it was perfect for my needs. According to their website they won't ship outside of the US anymore.

Thanks in advance!

(or should I post this in the Gunsmithing subforum?)

Pretty sure skinner makes those stevesgunz ones and they ship to Canada. They’re very helpful if you give them a call

I have one of the StevesGunz peep's on the receiver of an R92 but I got it while they still sent to Canada. It doesn't screw into the receiver but the base is pinned using the same pin that holds the safety in place, the peep then screws up or down in the base. I like it well enough but I may get one of the peeps from Skinner that replaces the rear sight dovetailed into the barrel for another Rossi I have. Either way they're a definate improvement over the buck horn sights that the Rossi comes with. I have a Chiappa with the Skinner mounted on the barrel and it's a bit cleaner install plus it doesn't wiggle around like the receiver mount. My biggest complaint about the StevesGunz sight is that the sight doesn't have a lock screw like the Skinner so it can get turned in the base while carrying it. That's ok for cowboy action or plinking but not so good if you need to use it in a hurry.
I can't tell you where to get the StevesGunz sight now that they don't ship to Canada.

I removed the Rossi safety from mine; ground the lever off the top and the firing pin interrupter off the bottom off turning it into a plug. Blued it and put it back, then put a Skinner sight into the factory barrel dovetail.

Thanks folks - I checked with Skinner, they make a rear aperture to fit the factory barrel dovetail. They also said that StevesGunz is the only source for the style I'm looking for.

I'd much prefer the safety replacement sight, it gets you a much longer sight radius for the short barrel guns.

Have you thought about a tang sight? Thats the way Im going with my rossi. The way I see it, the longer the sight radius, the better.

I formed my Rossi 92's safety lever into a plug as well. I then fitted an XS ghost ring sight to 'er and added a Williams front sight as well.
Great setup for me old peepers.

Is the sight attached to the bolt of the sidewalls of the receiver?

Looks a lot better than the stevesgunz sight

Drilled and tapped then bolted down.

I don't believe this stayed on my Rossi for very long, it looks a bunch better than it works. I wouldn't recommend it. The fact that it moves with the bolt messes with your mind.

Unfortunately the R92 is not D&T for a Williams, and they do not have a specific model for the R92.

Is that the Steve's sight? I really liked the one I had. I wound up removing the insert and using it as a ghost ring.

Looks tidy, yours and Shell Shucker's - You need a pretty tall front sight to match then, right?

Also, no issues with removing the bolt with the sight in place?

No issues removing the bolt & on my Rossi which is a Ranch Hand with 12" barrel, I fitted a Williams contour front sight of .538" height. Works best for the shorties.
