BC trades away outdoor recreation rights to continue industrial encroachment

Does that fall in line with what we're experiencing on the Island with the locked gate policy by outfits like and including MOSAIC?? A friend and fellow hunter typifies 'them' as MOSAIC-19, the biggest virus in the forest industry.:(:(

Along the same lines, but even worse.

As a result of the Blueberry Band court ruling last year which stated the BC government infringed on their rights, the same government just made a back door deal with the band which allows them to continue with the resource extraction in the band's territory - in exchange for refusing hunters/anglers/campers/hikers and more access to the area in question.

This is wildlife management by social pressure not science. The NDP has once again sold out the general public for their own gain.

This is a massive blow that completely undermines the entire science-based wildlife management model.

A response campaign has been organized, letters are flowing, and meetings being set up with MLA's around the Province to express our concerns. I am hopeful this will get their attention. If this is a cause of concern for every one of you reading this, I strongly suggest at least a letter to your own MLA. A template letter is presented on the BCWF link above.

I am also hopeful that should they try and proceed that we have legal grounds to pursue the matter further (being investigated now).

this thread should be full of responses but the apathy that exists amongst the BC hunting community is disgusting.

This area has been getting hammered by “ industrial enroachment” and convoys from Vancouver for years.

People only get pissed about “closures “ when First Nations are involved. Must just be a coincidence…

Wow this is brutal. Did a bunch of work in this area this winter. Never seen so many moose in my life. 3-400 a day, tons of calf’s too. What a place.

How do they plan to reduce harvest by 50% in a region with generous general open seasons on bull moose? Going to tags is only going to hurt locals opportunities more than general season hunter numbers do. How many tags will be drawn then not cut when people realize the gas cost, don’t get time off work etc and stay at home in other regions?

I’m going to echo slimbo, this region has seen a huge rebound in moose numbers from what I’ve seen from ground and air over the last ~ 8 years working and living there or close by. Circumstantial but it is noticeable for sure.

A lot of this area has been opened up to easier access as well with the logging blitz due to regulatory changes. Presents some new access opportunities for sure. But short of a helicopter or a hell of an Argo ride it’s difficult to access a lot of it regardless of old/winter roads and seismic lines.

I’ll also mention that Blueberry aggressively confronting canfor etc has been the only real check on industrial development in the area that I have witnessed.

I don’t know how allowing the projects that were laid out etc during the “blitz” I referred to are a “ back door deal” with blueberry. This #### pays the bills in the peace region. This is on the government; with a track record of making decisions based on emotion and the feelings of lower mainland urbanites over science.

Really pissed I missed my planned caribou hunt in 2020 now…

it has never been more clearer that BC needs a new political party to form from the ranks of sport shooters, hunters, fishermen and back country users of all types.
The BC conservative party has been in shambles for years now with zero sign of forming any kind of meaningful opposition nor ability to form enough MPs to be relevant.

A failure to form a party that can counter the BC Liberals and the BC Communist Party.... er sorry..... NDP .... will only serve to embolden the commies in Ottawa.
John Horgan is clearly in the pocket of justin trudeau and has the exact same political mind as has been evidenced by his public support of trudeau policies AND he supports the use of the emergency measures act against the canadian people.

it's time to get off our @sses and get politically involved in this province as John Horgan's NDP party must be stopped.

Pull your head out of your butt.
THIS has zero to do with what you're attempting to turn it into. ZERO.

It has everything to do with government over-reach giving away our collective access to our resources in order to pacify FN's.
Dwell on that a spell and maybe, just maybe reality might sink in.
A little anyway...

Simmer down hotshot

You are the one yammering about “ backroom deals”, believe it or not some people have actual experience working with both groups beyond CGN posts.

Sure you did buddy, do yearly trips with the boys to pink mountain count now?

This has to be the best publicized “back room deal” in all of human history

I’m not your enemy, I made two posts in this thread. #### me for trying to shed some light on the situation in the second one I guess

I sure don’t have any issues with the article you posted, I think it’s well reasoned. You not so much

i can tell you, the impact of industry up here has not impacted the FN with their hunting or fishing rights.

what roads do they booze cruise looking for moose to shoot from the truck/quad from? Resource roads.

respectfully I would ask you not to bump heads with Ironnoggin. I have shared a scotch and smoke with the man in his home. I have been familiar with him off and on for nearing 30 years. He is as "real" as it gets when you want to talk of those who "walk the walk and talk the talk" as it pertains to adventures on land and sea.
In some circles the man is a legend.
To me, he has always been an inspiring individual who has done so much for conservation in this province that anyone who challenges the man should be embarrassed for themselves.

for the record, I am not one of his buddies and I can't even count myself fortunate enough to be called his friend..... but of all the people of the hunting and fishing forums I have frequented over the past 3 decades, this is a man I have a everest size mountain of respect for.

Who’s talking #### here? I’m responding to unsolicited aggression from a guy who thinks his opinions are worth more than others.

I’m glad you met him and like him, your opinion means as much to me as the paper it’s printed on

He seems to have no issues speaking up for himself. If you want to lavish him with praise send him a pm. If he’s not too busy shaking his fist at seals he might respond. Won’t you be star struck?

The only one who should be embarrassed is you, acting like a cliquey highschool girl

Yet you don’t seem to understand the basics of industrial permitting?

I will have a nice life, thanks

In your storied career as a legend did you tell stakeholders to take their head out of their asses a lot? Why don’t you leave this kind of jackassery on huntingBC for your legions of screaming fans

Certainly are rather high on yourself.

Pot, meet kettle
