Frontier Firepower! Adventures in Black Powder and the 50-70 Government - Part I

Your Springfield .50-70 may shoot high as service rifles were designed to zero in with bayonet attached.

Do you have any primary source material that confirms this? My reading on the subject has never mention this and the bible for loading for the .45-70 trapdoor Springfield (LOADING CARTRIDGES FOR THE ORIGINAL .45-70 SPRINGFIELD RIFLE AND CARBINE by J. S. and Pat wolf) does not mention it.

I think next time you are over or passing through you should stop by and borrow a few copies of Muzzleloader Magazine ..... every issue contains at least several articles and studies about early American personalities (generals, presidents, camp followers etc) and usually in depth articles about the frontier forts, politics and so forth. After reading what you wrote, I think you would really enjoy them!

I have a subscription to Muzzle Loader magazine and it’s fantastic! It’s one of the reasons it made me want one of your rifles so much!!!
