Hey All,

Debating the merits of trading my Sub2000 for a Type 81 (or selling to fund a purchase).

I bought the 2K as a post deployment gift because I thought it was cool/neat and would be alot of fun. Turns out it mostly sits in the safe whereas I think I could get more use out of the type 81 and find it equally cool/neat if in a different way.

Thoughts and opinions welcome.

Different purposes, I guess. Sub 2000- short range plinking, easy to store folded. T81- longer range/possible hunting/relatively cheap ammo( starting to creep up just like everything else)

For me the Type 81 is pure novelty. IMO the right PCC is overall a better bang for ur buck fun range gun / utility rifle. Id swap the Sub 2000 for a better PCC.

Two biggest gripes about the S2K: sighting and charging.
Put a nice bright green laser on the lower pic rail.
Get the M*Carbo two fingered charging handle and wrap it with the big fat blue vegetable elastics.
Once sighted in, the laser stays on, so doesn't lose zero. Sighting problem solved.
Getting two fingers onto very grippy rubber is a breeze. Charging problem solved.
It still folds easily, and is still light as a feather. What's not to like?

The T81 to the SKS is like a bodybuilder to a construction worker.
Looks more impressive, but can't get any more work done.

Nice reference, will likely need more frequent maintenance aswell, resulting in weaker overall performance, and less productivity.

After a couple K 147 grainers through it, including +P, I absolutely disagree with this unfounded derogatory insinuation.
All parts replacements were upgrades (cause I wanna), not because of any failing on the basic product's part.
If you know otherwise, please be specific.
The only time I've ever heard abdominal wind like that was from corporate management. They talk like that.

I could never get past the charging handle reciprocating right under my face... its simple layout lends it to be a great utility carbine, but a comparatively poor plinker.

The Type 81 id argue has some functional perks over the SKS. It has a better trigger, smoother recoil impulse, better mag system, better balance, better disassembly and is easier to clean...

I hired a body builder to help with a roof once.. couldn't even shoulder a bundle up the ladder. It was well under 40C and he had to stop every 10min for water (or creatine, we never did find out) .. No experience with T81.. trust my SKS with my life.

I can say, I've had great experiences with the fx9 platform.. would go that rout if the OP is due for an upgrade.

For most people they are both novelty guns. Novelty always wears off... There's nothing wrong with enjoying the novelty for what it is, and trading for something else when the time comes.

What is it about the Sub2000 that fails to get you fired up about it? I'd expect the T81 to occupy the same space in your safe after a short while.
