PAL Wait Time

I called the CFP yesterday and was advised my application had been sent to the CFO-ON last Thursday. I called the CFO-ON today and was told that everything with my application looks good and it just needs to be assigned to an officer to conduct background checks, etc...but he also noted that my application was received (by the CFP) on November 24 (correct) and that it's taking 4-8 months & suggested I call back in a couple of months if there's been no change in my status.

Not quite the same impression I got from the CFP who, the two times I've called them (yesterday being the second), suggested I check back in a couple of weeks - not months. Based on today's call with the CFO-ON, I could concievably get approved any time from now to the end of July.

I truly hope they are just saying that for the sake of it...

It was disheartening, no question. I mentioned to him that I'd been told by the CFP to check in every couple of weeks to which he replied, "Yeah, and then I get to be the bearer of bad news". He wasn't remotely snarky about it, he just sounded...tired. I'm sure he hears all kinds of 'But they said...' stories all day long.

I'm still hopeful though, based on the stories some have told here recently and my last conversation with the CFP, that it'll come through soon. Yesterday when the CFP told me my application had been sent to the CFO-ON last week, she told me that the provincial CFOs have typically been taking a couple of weeks to approve applications once they receive them.

Seems like there's a disconnect between the CFP and the CFO - one may be overly optimistic and the other may be talking worst-case. I don't doubt if I call the CFO-ON next week, I'll get a different timeline, but ultimately as much as I'd like to have it already, getting wound up about it isn't going to get that pink & blue card into my wallet any faster.

Check yours today! You and I have almost the same submission, cc charge dates, and last week run around about 4-6 months, bet yours is issued now too

Sometimes best not to ask why! Somehow I am thinking that there is an assembly line where someone will enter in the final information prior to approval, then it goes to another person's desk for final approval before issuing and it will sit there until they get to it or you call them and say you want to make sure all your information is correct (which is what I said I was wanting) and then since they have it up on their system when confirming your info, they just take it through. Who knows. In the morning the website said my application was still being processed. I called and they finalized everything on the phone and said it would be in the mail shortly; the website updated within minutes to issued.

Hey guys,
Have anyone ever gotten a letter in the mail regarding missing information on your application?

I haven't; however, did the CFO not tell you what was missing? If not, you should be able to call the 1-800 number to speak with a service agent and they can tell you specifically what was missing.

They I tried calling but I am not getting through to CFO or the processing centre.
I’ve been checking my mailbox every day but nothing.

So, even though the PAL applications are sent to the Feds in Miramachi, some of the processing is done in the individual province by the CFO?

I think the processing center should be able to tell you what was missing. Once call volume gets so high, you don't get put on hold anymore. I typically got through during non-peak times (after a short hold), when they first open in the morning.

So I got through to both CFO and processing centre. They said everything is okay with my application. They were missing my test results but they got it now. It doesn’t make sense because I sent in everything with my application. So he said they’re waiting to scan my photo.

I was missing something in mine. They sent me an email the day after my credit card was charged, with a phone number to call. I guess I got lucky and didn't have to hound them.

I sent in the paperwork for new Rpal/pal in early November and received both licenses at the end of January. I was realistically expecting 4+ months or longer with covid going on.

Hang in there folks.

Ya just the canned response that they are processing check back later, have to actually call them I guess.

So as it turns out, we should have called a while ago, they sent a letter which never came stating signatures were out of date, the guarantors signature was 7 months old, and cannot be over 6 months, so we have to resign and submit again. My boy sat on it for too long between getting all of his references to sign. He thought as you have a year to submit application he was ok.
