Mdt elite brake

Looks good for a big old ugly ;-) tactical style rifle... not what I would want on a lighter hunting rifle... what do you have for a rifle?

MDT actually did a pretty good video on recoil vs amount of ports on the brake.

I have been thinking about tossing one of these on my 6.5 PRC for better shot tracking over the dust clouds I currently get -__-

Good video, but faulty analysis to draw the conclusion that 4 and 5 ports create more recoil. You can't draw that conclusion from such a small sample size. If the sample size was to be increased to say ~30 shots per muzzle brake configuration, I bet you would find that the performance between 3, 4 and 5 ports are essentially identical for that rifle.

It does go to show that the first port does the majority of work, and there's diminishing returns for each added port, to a point where they don't add any additional benefit.

Agreed. I also prefer the sled style testing racks but it works for what thy wanted to show. A larger data set is always nicer maybe its something one of us can try one day :D

I had one on my 6.5CM PRS gun, was not a big fan of the concussion being redirected back towards me. I swapped it for a Insite Heathen and am much happier for it.

Ok Good Info ! I have a 6.5 PRC being built now and i have a Heathen brake for it - I will wait and see how it Functions first ! The PRICE of the MDT is much BETTER - CHEAPER ! RJ

I have one on my 308 and really like it. Compared to JP Recoil Eliminator, recoil reduction seems the same, but the concussion is much less. Point of aim shift is hard to say because the gun is 15 lbs and does not move much anyway. For the price, absolutely worth it! Plus it has a luck nut for easy indexing.

We actually did do that, although not for this video. We found the four-port to be the most efficient in most combinations which is why we went the four-port route for the comp brake coming out.

The video we did about this was a super-compressed version of the testing we did and in reality only one very small portion of it as well.

EDIT: Full disclosure, I work for MDT, and I love my Elite brakes, they can be a bit concussive in enclosed spaces, but they are incredibly effective.

Most brakes are going to be some kind of compromise between recoil reduction and concussion back at the shooter, it's a balancing act. The MDT Elite brake does a great job of reducing recoil but definitely pushes more concussion back towards the shooter than an Insite Heathen (which is probably the brake that pushes the least concussion back at the shooter yet is still very effective). The new MDT Comp brake that's coming out shortly is more of a middle ground between the Heathen and the current Elite with regards to recoil mitigation/concussion balance. At the end of the day, brakes are kind of a personal preference thing.

Is the first baffle going to be 90 deg to the bore, or still angled back to the shooter?

The MPA 4-gill (Alamo 4-star) is the best brake I've used for recoil reduction, the ports are rearward-angled like that MDT brake. It turned my 300 PRC Bergara HMR into a comfy 243.
My 3 port Heathen hasn't really blown my hair back. Recoil reduction seems no better than the brake that came on my RPR. There's a little less concussion than my other brakes, but if I ever buy another one it will be the 4 or 5 port version.

It all kinda depends on caliber as well. I've run all the Heathens and currently run the 3 port Al ones on lightweight builds, 4-ports on 6 and 6.5 comp guns and a 5-port on my .300 Norma Mag. That 5-port makes the Norma a total pussycat to shoot.
