Is there any difference in size of the gas systems between a 14.5 inch barrel and a 16 barrel carbine? Thanks in advance.

Nothing, 14.5" and 16" uses the Carbine Gas Tube, You can get 16" barrel that uses the Mid length gas tube and its a wee bit longer then the carbine one..

Carbine Length is about 7" where the mid length is 9"

THe gas port sizes are slightly different but I don't know the numbers off my head.
