Advice Seeking - Are Those Webley Bulldogs Safe To Reload For

Greetings everyone,

Hope all are well.

Just keep seeing these Webley Bulldogs for sale .
Would you recommend one, if checked out by a gunsmith, for cottage/crown land fun?

I owned a couple of Webleys, mki and mkii, also a colt SAA in the past but would like something I can have fun with.

Prices have gone so high for prescribed antique pistols now but I sold off a rare diesel engine so have some fun time cash lol.

I'm thinking better to get a nice bulky mki or mkii instead of the Bulldogs in 44 bulldog or 442 webely but can others chime in?

They are safe to reload for and honestly they are stronger than many other antiques being a solid frame.

I had a British Bulldog 2.5 inch which was a Webley clone made in Belgium. Also a Webley RIC 4.5" and a Webley MP 2.5". All 3 guns n 450 Adams and some could chamber and shoot 455 Webley Mk2. They are well built solid guns.

I would say for recreational shooting to avoid the Bulldog. It's grip is a finger and a half at best and that isn't so fun to shoot. Also I would stick to the 450/455 as 44/442 are a little more difficult to reload for as they should use heeled bullets and take some difficulty to crimp properly. Some use hollow base projectiles for them but I can't see it working out too well. Others might chime in here with more experience with them.

I think the Colt SAA you mentioned would be the strongest gun in the bunch for plinking on a regular basis. I have one now and gets the most use of my antiques. They unfortunately demand a high price these days.

To get a Colt SSA now would run you near 10k if you can find one. I do see a nice looking450/455 Belgian in the EE. Would likely be a good shooter.

I have a number of webleys

Two Model 83 , published in that book

One is the nickel model 83/
Other is Published Webley RIC M/83 Revolver by Boss & Co.
And Egyptian model 1 ric
And an MP
And another model 1 ric

All 455

They’re good if you get the custom loaded low power bullets

All antiques

I may let one of my model 1 rics go

What are these going for now?

Online I'm seeing 4k and up in the USA and other countries.

Antique status C96 today if you can find one for sale will ring you for somewhere in the 10-12K range. If you find one in the states for 4k then get it and ship it up but be sure to do your research to ensure it is an antique by our laws. Antique in the US and Canada vary slightly by definition.
