Have you ever bought a handgun on hype and reviews and were disappointed?

I made a thread prob 10 years ago or more about this and there have been lots of new pistols on market since then. Tell us what you bought on glowing reviews and hype and were disappointed. Mine was new SP01 when they first came out. Everyone was raving about them and I loved the look. I bought one new and just could not shoot it as well as my P99 which had bad reviews at the time. This is not about guns that are POS this about good guns that you bought but never warmed up to or could shoot as well as others. Lets hear it.

The FNX9. It was supposed to be just as good as the FNX45. Lots of rave reviews. When I finally got one I was very excited when I got it to the range. It just did not shoot as well as my other pistols did. I was excited about it because it's a hammer fired polymer frame pistol, like the USP. But a USP it was not. I also found the corners on the top of the slide to be very aggressive and it seemed like they didn't bother to round them off. Additionally, that little tab on the front of the mag that locks it into place is super annoying, it drags on mag pouches, drags on you index finger when reloading at speed, just a poor design. I really wanted to like that pistol but just couldn't.

Wilson EDC X9.

It doesn't feel as comfortable as a 1911, the beaver tail is a little lower making it feel awkward to ride thumb on the safety. I also discovered that I should have ordered a short trigger instead of the medium length trigger. I believed that played a role in the gun shooting left a bit, although it also shot a wee bit left for my friend with larger hands. It might also be an issue with the sight. I find it easier to line up square rear notched rear sights that the rounded one the gun comes with.

HK P2000 - the beaver tail was burning my hand between the thumb and trigger finger like crazy no matter what grip size; Walther P99AS - snappy recoil and a shallow trigger blade slapped the trigger finger around. Both gone after one trip range. Glock 19X and 17 didn't even make it to the range - a shallow trigger guard were quite uncomfortable.

I bought the Glock 42 (.380 single stack compact), then the 43 (9mm single stack compact) came out. I think they could have skipped the 42 completely. The 43 is what everyone wanted anyway. Sold the 42 and got a 43. I prefer the G48 over them both when it comes time to shoot.

I had a new stainless Ruger P89 - it shot low - like really really low and couldn't be adjusted enough to ever hit POA. It looked cool on the cover of the movie "True Lies" but not a great pistol by any means.

AMT Longslide 1911. Out of spec front end of slide.
Great accuracy at first 25 yards. Then unexplained split groups. Eventually the front barrel bushing departed forward under the recoil spring pressure.
Immediately sold it to a dealer full disclosure.
I wanted to love it....

Sig 320 X-Five Legion.... was expecting an 8 out of 10 before I ordered it.
But the fitment to the slide (at least for the one I received) was a bit sloppy.
So for me it was a 6.5 out of 10.

Like a Regina Cougar you see at Smitty's Pub, "She's good from a far, but far from good"

Despite my disappointment, the Sig 320 X Five Legion was worth the extra $300 (or so) than my experience with an older generation Glock 34 that I had.

I had a Korth PRS for awhile. Neat roller lock mechanism, shot great, excellence trigger. Unfortunately a bit ungainly and top heavy so handling felt compromised compared to a nice 1911, take down and stripping was a pain with the removable barrel weight, and I could not shoot it any better than other decent target pistols so I never warmed up to it.

Grand Power K-22 X-Trim, 1st version

The factory slide is too heavy to cycle reliably with a wide variety of ammo. Initial mag design sucked and would shoot ammo into the air rather than chamber it. Poor testing of the initial gun made me never want to buy a first version of any gun again.

Finally tuned it enough to work well with two types of ammo. Second gen mags work.

Colt Delta Elite 10mm. I got one of the first ones in the country must have been '87 or '88. The only factory loading I could find was the Norma 200gr. Fire breathers. There was very little info on reloading for it. One of the loads listed in the Lee carbide die set was too high and left the expensive brass with a severe bulge that couldn't be ironed out in the resizing die. Spare mags and reloading components were hard to source. The gun just didn't fit me well and it turned me.off of 1911's for good. Sold it at a loss.

One I'll add in was a pre-Kahr ownership Auto Ordnance model 1911A1 pistol in .45ACP.

Was a decent looking 1911 but just didn't perform up to specs for me. Went off in a trade shortly after acquisition.

I'm kinda amazed this was your experience with a Korth? I've always drooled over them. I'm also surprised no one has mentioned the Glock 44 (the .22LR one), maybe everyone here avoided the purchase? Everything I've read about them is they are really fussy on ammo and that's when they actually cycle. Many of them are also cracking the slides.

Oh, I give it the respect it is due. It is an impeccably engineered product. But the overall user experience because of some of the design elements imo, did not deliver as much as I had hoped. You hit diminishing returns at some point. If I was a wealthy collector, I would have definitely kept it.

Not a big purchase, but a few friends convinced me to get a Beretta 71. Didn't shoot it for a while after purchasing. When I finally did I couldn't load the factory mag all the way or first round was f2f. After every other shot the barrel comes out of the locked position and the gun jams.

Glock 44. Bought it on a whim, brand new from my range. Took 12 or 13 weeks to get it transferred so I missed most of the summer. Finally get it to the firing line and the first 50 rounds or so of Federal bulk go off no problem. Super happy, bought some Pierce pinky-finger bases for the mags and a holster (cuz why not).

Never again did I get a mag of bulk to feed reliably. It will only eat HV which is close enough in price for me to just shoot 9. I keep it for introducing new shooters. But I'm definitely a steel gun guy.
