Have you ever bought a handgun on hype and reviews and were disappointed?

Ruger SR9 was my biggest lemon, trigger was all mush with no indication when it would break, accuracy was also not good, not an overly well made pistol.
I should have known better, Ruger centerfire pistols are notoriously lousy...

A KelTec Sub 2000. Seemed like a neat gun. Actual hot garbage.

This was when I was naïve and new to firearms ownership, and was not yet aware of KelTec and their questionable build quality/QC.

Edit: I just read the title again. Handgun. Lol I'm not very observant. Oh well. I guess any 22LR 1911? They kind of all suck.

Disagrees with you in SR1911. ;)

I bought an original 8” Colt Anaconda. It had the best trigger I’ve felt outside of an IPSC comp gun. Everything about it was awesome. Long gone now.

Sig Sauer SP2022
It wasn't bought on hype and reviews but rather on previous experience with other Sig pistols.
I think of the SP2022 as a necessary but best-forgotten evolutionary step for Sig to get from metal DA/SA hammer guns to striker-fired polymers.
The best thing about the SP2022 was it brought us the P250 and eventually to the P320 and P365.

same except I bought mine new

the club one was new too, piece of junk. It's currently locked in a safe that was under 9ft of water, so it will be replaced with something new and better.

Personal gun that I bought that I regret is the first gen S&W M&P 9mm. easily the worst gun in my collection, also the only one to rust, yes, rust. the slide still has pitting on it from the rust it developed after being stored in a large multi gun case with some other guns. None of which rusted, including the Desert Eagle which is essentially all carbon steel with no real treatment. But the "stainless" slide on the M&P rusted. That the trigger blew chunks and the accuracy was, um, well, it wasn't accurate, lets just say that. It currently is buried in my safe under old slings and broken mags.

Para Ord P16-40. Worst POS I've ever had. Non functional out of the box, brand new. Took it back to Para, and they fixed it. Couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Over hyped piece of junk, poorly finished, and non functional. 3 strikes!

HK USP 45ACP. Very over hyped at the time. Was huge in my hands, for no real reason. At the time, they had their own rail system, so you had to buy their stuff to fit it. Sold soon after.

The HK P7M8 is a gun that I bought on the reputation of its accuracy. I found that I couldn't adapt to it's grip as well as I could with other platforms making it an expensive gun that one can no longer get spare parts for. I keep mine as it was Hard Chromed by Rodger Kotanko and the gun is beautiful.

The masters have left us!
Two months ago I seriously considered Roger/Dark International, for a hard chrome project one of my firearms.
And about a year ago we lost Nick Makinson.
A Birmingham trained gunmaker/gunsmith.
He worked on two of my shotguns!

I'm going to get roasted for this but I was disappointed in my High Power.

It's one of the go to suggestions for people with smaller hands, but in reality the grip is quite chunky and hard to grip well. the beavertail is a little too short and chews into the web of my hand too.

I didn't have any of those problems with the CZ 75 I owned, even though the grip circumference is the same.

The sr1911 was probably the nicest 1911 I bought for the money when they first came out they sold for $680.00

Yep. That's what I paid for mine. Some guys started complaining about bad tolerance issues, but it had to have been a second run type of situation. Mine's tight. I wouldn't sell it for twice what I paid. I love it.

P7M8 - Great machining and an interesting example of alternative pistol design, but yeah, you don't want to put many rounds down range all at once. They are quite snappy with recoil too.
I'd buy another given the chance to have and take it out once a year, but at current going rates - not a chance.

H&K Mk23 - a big bloody boat anchor. Happy to see that thing in the rear view mirror.

Pretty much any Colt 1911 - Most are over hyped and over priced for the build quality.

Laugo Alien. Don't get me wrong almost everything about it is great - recoil v soft, v v accurate, hot-swappable sights iron vs red dot, and makes me look like I can actually shoot. For about 100 rounds. Then it gets so hot that I can barely touch the slide and frame. Difficult to grip with a firm two hands. I wasn't even shooting particularly fast. It's the gas-delayed blowback coupled with the vast mass of steel that it's made out of. I put it in my box and took it home from the range, about 40 mins drive, and it was still hot when I took it out again to clean.

FAS 6007. My new ISSF target gun. The FAS 607 had an impeccable reputation, and the new version from Chiappa was raved about by various bullseye people I got talking too on those forums. Problem is it's much lighter than I am used to, and doesn't dampen my physiological tremor like I'm using too. I'm working with it but it's not the upgrade I was hoping for. Even shot off a bean bag it jumps around like a fish being tickled. Really wish they'd made it out of steel, would have been awesome. I shoot my High Standard much better :)

Not giving up on either guns, but definitely weren't the immediate gratification I thought I might have been getting ...

I made a thread prob 10 years ago or more about this and there have been lots of new pistols on market since then. Tell us what you bought on glowing reviews and hype and were disappointed. Mine was new SP01 when they first came out. Everyone was raving about them and I loved the look. I bought one new and just could not shoot it as well as my P99 which had bad reviews at the time. This is not about guns that are POS this about good guns that you bought but never warmed up to or could shoot as well as others. Lets hear it.

Must be your fault, in as much as the SPO1 doesn't fit you or feel like the P99 you're used to.

I really like my SP01, shoot it well and it's extremely reliable and consistent with good ammo.

I also like the 1911/P35/Beretta/P08/P38/Canik and TT33, just to name a few.

They all are a bit different from each other, but nothing that can't be learned and overcome very quickly

The P99 was a snappy pistol with less than stellar reviews and quirks, felt too small in my hands but it was accurate and 100% jam free. I assumed with all the glowing reviews at the time the SP01 and with the extra weight of an all steel pistol it was gonna blow me away but I.... let me repeat I could not shoot it as accurately as the P99. Both are long gone and have been replaced by many. YMMV
