The hole's still round right? Sounds likes years of marketing, not research that will sell this rifle. Don't get me wrong, I like 700's. But man they are throwing a lot of new stuff out there & in the past it usally took some tweeking to get their rifles to be really good shooters. The price on Remmies nowadays, I hope their all that & more. I guess we have to wait for a gun rag to test it or the first fish to buy it and post here.

Removing metal wont make it more rigid. Like fluting, it makes the barrel more rigid than a barrel the same length and weight, which would be a smaller diameter. Looks kind of cool, but most likely a cosmetic feature.

Do we really "need" a varmint tactical rifle? If a varmint is misbehaving can't we just taser the snot out of it? Maybe we could relocate them to an area where they would not pose a threat.

I call BULL$@!# on this one, If this stile of barrel was any different, the 'real' benchrest guys would have been all over it along time ago. I'm no benchrest shooter but I have never seen any of those guys with any barrels that look like this thing.

Yeah...But what if that varmit was humpin your leg or worst yet, ya sister. Then you probably recant on that statement. That varmit drew first blood & you probably go Rambo on his .... :runaway:

Model 700™ Features
Green stock with black overmold grips
(similar to XCR models)

Tactical-style 1 in 9" twist (223 caliber)

Tactical-style 1 in 12" twist (308 caliber)

22" barrel with integrated muzzle brake
design and triangular barrel contour to
enhance accuracy

That's a ####ing stretch to make the barrel twist "tacticle"........retarded

Sorry, but that doesn't 'do it' for me.

At least fluting gives a little more heat dissipation, but thats just another "hay lukit mah!!![/fat bastard]' gimmick.

ETA

last time i checked, .223 and .308 didn't have a whole lot of muzzle rise in a bolt gun either...

pfffft, now a round barrel, with triangle bullets would be different:p
Don't laugh Just give it some time and i'm sure some dumbass will try to make a few bucks from that same idea.
Triangle barrel that twists instead of rifleing wil be the new thing.
You should go get a patent on that just incase it takes off.;)

Been done, Charles Lancaster, starting in the 1850's, made double barreled rifles with oval bores and gain twist. They fired a conical bullet of pure lead. The rifles were good enough to be built until the 1920's.

It is called marketing ... it's a bit of a model change ...

Winchester did it with the short mags ...

They do it with cars all the time...

No big deal.

Wow you guys really slammed this rifle. Though I will have to agree. Too bad though, nice looking rifle. Maybe I will be optimisic about it and not say anything bad till a range report comes out.

A little late in posting, but in my search for a .204, I stumbled across it. I kind of like the looks of it, but I also like the looks of the SL8 and R1.

I am curious though, perhaps such a design would further reduce vibration? Curious to see range reports as well.
