SO who ordered a Dominion Arms 870 Grizzly

yeah, i cant see a need to change it.

also, i dislike accessories like smiley face magazine caps - IMO the use of such accessories is short-sighted.

stop for a second and imagine yourself shooting a home invader to protect your family. now imagine your shotgun and poster-sized blow-up photos of it displayed to an entire courtroom, being shown to ordinary people who have been showered most of their lives with anti-gun propaganda -- and a prosecutor bent on painting you as a trigger-happy gun-crazed killer. do you really want something like a smiley-face mag cap on your gun in such a situation?
same for a camp gun/animal defense/hunting weapon. depending on the CO or PO, when he picks up your gun to examine it his first impression of you might not be very favorable. many arent that nice to begin with. why take the chance?

guns are not toys, i dont like accessories that make them seem as such. nothing against Dlask, btw - all the other Dlask products are top notch.

Very good point.

Then I guess in Canada, the best home defence gun is a Holland & Holland high-end double rifle.

You sir, have some very fine taste in firearm... but I would afraid that a 600NE might be considered over kill for a BG (Not the say the $40 a shot make it a little expensive to practice with) ;)

OK, back on subject: Anybody going to get their barrel setup for chokes?

If you are worried about court during a gun fight, you should just run away. We are talking about saving lives. An old line, but "It is better to be judged by 12, than carried by 6", is still very true.

thats with a beater 870 wood stock/forend installed, i just prefer the look/feel of wood stocks. factory Remington parts seem to fit no problem. the forend was too tight, however - leading me to believe that the Grizzly forend tube is a touch larger in diameter than the Remington. DO NOT FORCE A WOOD FOREND ON!!! i smoothed/relieved the inside of my 870P forend by a hair's width by wrapping a broom handle with a piece of 120 grit sandpaper and giving it a few spins inside the forend, until the wood forend slid onto the forend tube with some resistance but nothing that required thumping. if you force the wood forend on an oversized tube it might split down the entire length.
after sanding off a hair from the inside, it fit perfectly - and feels totally solid and immobile.

i had a chance to examine my friend's 870 Express and IMO the production quality of these Grizzlies is at least as good or better. little touches like the hi-vis follower are a nice suprise. its plastic, but i actually prefer plastic to a metal follower because ive actually had one (albeit pitifully neglected) Mossberg with a follower that rusted solid.

the action was a bit rough when i first took it out of the box but is smoothing out now after a couple boxes of Cheap-O™ Wal-Mart shells and some dry-pumping of the action. the all steel (aluminum) triggerguard is a nice surprise as well.

i just love the handling of the thing -- all in all this will make a great camp/zombie gun :)

**note:
someone above mentioned that theirs was stamped Dominion Arms - Model 870 Grizzly on their receiver on both sides. mine - as you can see - is only stamped on one side.

of course, and one should never hesitate in a situation where your life or the lives/safety of your family is threatened.

but in choosing the gun in advance? why not pick something just as effective but a lot more innocuous. a gun bristling with picatinny rails isnt going to help you kill that BG... but they sure do make it look evil in the eyes of a jury :)

Hmm, we went from opinions on smiley faced mag caps to pic of fully tacked guns. What a leap! They say that opinions are like a**holes. Every one has one. Here is mine.:) Smiley faced caps, fully tacked or grandad's double with a sticky that says "Jesus love you but I think you are an a**hole"......I would rather be in court alive explaining why I killed the a**hole, than him in court with the right to remain silent and not have to explain why he killed me or killed and/or hurt my family. Enjoy your sport and guns in any way that is legal and do what you have to when there is no other way.

I ordered one. I was hesitant with this pistol grip legality issue... I want it for in the bush and if the pistol grip becomes illegal then it would be a less compact gun than a 18" barrel w/pistol grip. If it happens tho, Ill just pack it anyways or maybe get a slightly shorter stock in the summer. A stock makes it a lot easier to use if I have to anyways.

Excited to get it in the mail :) .

MANBEARPIG,
Just a suggestion on that wood, (looks good btw) you might wanna sand the forend a bit more- it's dry and cold right now, but come humid summertime, she might swell up and bind on you. It would suck to find out the hard way...

my initial comment was simply questioning the wisdom of the smiley mag-cap, sillymike extended it to 'black guns' and tactical.
Then I guess we shouldn't use any black gun... because they look "tactical" and the SWAT team uses them also... and better not load the gun with "tactical" reduce recoil loads either...
not such a big leap after all, eh? :D

in every single thread that broaches this topic people recite that same line, as if theres only two options:
a. shoot badguy with zombie gun
b. let your family die.

yes, i get the concept that 'you would rather be in court alive explaining why you killed the BG with your zombie gun...' but you could just as easily do that by using something that looks less like you are chomping at the bit to shoot someone and more like a common hunting tool -- and have a much easier time in court.
im sure the wife and kids that you protect will also appreciate if you dont end up in jail for it simply because you thought all those lasers and sidesaddles looked cool on your HD/WD gun.

can we please let the smiley mag-cap issue die now? :)

it cycles fine... i should clarify:
i mean the hollow part of the forend - the hole drilled lengthwise through it that slides over the metal tube (soldered to the action bars) that rides over the mag tube. its then locked on with a threaded lock ring.
THAT metal tube on the Grizzly seems a couple thou larger in OD than the Remington, so sliding the wood forend over it requires a lot of force (to install it, not cycle the action). IMO it is wiser to relieve the inside of the wood forend a bit than it is to hammer it on with a mallet since the wood forend could just split in half if you force it too much.

with a plastic tactical style forend this probably wont be a problem, maybe run a bit of grease on the inside of the forend before you push it on so youll actually be able to take it back off if you decide to later. i actually dont mind, it ensures a 100% fit that has zero play and feels very solid.

for all i know it could be my forends that are a tad undersize, but both 870P forends i had exhibited this same problem. it only took a couple minutes to sand them to fit perfect though so noone should worry - just warning people so they dont crack their forends.

Don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but here is mine with Knoxx SpecOps and Streamlight mount. I just need a light to attach now.
