Just a reminder that Riflechair's Cabin Fever Challenge 2022 is open for submissions. All the info, rules, and previous scores can be found HERE. It is great motivation to get outside during the more-miserable time of the year. For those who have never seen it before, it is an online "competition" in practical marksmanship. I put the word competition in quotes because you are more challenging yourself than anything. Last year was my first entry, so my main goal this year is to do better than before. I'll try to summarize the event here:
What Skills Do I Need?
Enough skills to safely handle your chosen firearm
What type of firearm do I need
There are 6 categories you can participate in
DIV 1 Vintage / Original: VZ-58 (stock), M305, M1A, AG42, VZ-52/57, SKS / M1 Carbine, M1 Garand,
SAFN, AK47 (stock), etc
DIV 2 Modern / Unlimited: BCL-102 / Stag-10 / WK180 / AR15 / TAVOR / Swiss Arms / XCR / FAMAE 542 /
T97 / SL8 / TRICKED OUT AK47 / VZ58 / SKS / Modded or Tricked Out Vintage Rifles
DIV 3 Manual Repeating: Bolt / Lever / Pump
DIV 4 Single Shots: Break Actions / Falling Blocks
DIV 5 Muzzle Loaders only
DIV 6 22 Rimfire (unlimited / any 22 Rimfire can enter)
How much ammo do I need?
Except for muzzleloaders which only require 4 rounds, all other categories require 20 rounds
What is the course of fire?
(Except for muzzleloaders where only 1 shot is fired from each position) The participant shoots 5 shots from a standing position, 5 from kneeling, 5 from prone, then 5 from sitting. There must be a reload in between each shooting position
What distance do I shoot at?
Divisions 1-4 shoot at 100 meters/yards
Divisions 5 and 6 shoot at 50 meters/yards
What type of target
Divisions 1-5 use THIS 8" circle
Division 6 (rimfire) uses THIS 4" circle
How does scoring work?
Take your number of hits on target x 5, divide that by the time it takes you to shoot the course of fire (from first shot to last shot), then x the whole thing by 100
Sounds fun! How do I enter?
Film yourself shooting the challenge, upload to any one of the free video hosting sites, and submit the link to cfcdivisions @ gmail .com (remove spaces, obviously). All entries need to be received by March 31st, 2022
I shot last days off for one category so far (hope to quickly stitch the video together on these days off) and if my wife doesn't have too long of a to-do list for me these days off I hope to get out again to try for a different category. Feel free to use this thread to post up some of your video submissions (after making sure to submit them officially to the above e-mail address!) to encourage others to get out there
Lastly, I would like to clarify, I am not associated with the challenge in anyway, but I just wanted to help spread the word around a bit. The challenge has been going for 7 years now and that is entirely thanks to Riflechair and the volunteer division leaders of each category.
