Just a reminder that Riflechair's Cabin Fever Challenge 2022 is open for submissions. All the info, rules, and previous scores can be found HERE. It is great motivation to get outside during the more-miserable time of the year. For those who have never seen it before, it is an online "competition" in practical marksmanship. I put the word competition in quotes because you are more challenging yourself than anything. Last year was my first entry, so my main goal this year is to do better than before. I'll try to summarize the event here:

What Skills Do I Need?
Enough skills to safely handle your chosen firearm

What type of firearm do I need
There are 6 categories you can participate in
DIV 1 Vintage / Original: VZ-58 (stock), M305, M1A, AG42, VZ-52/57, SKS / M1 Carbine, M1 Garand,
SAFN, AK47 (stock), etc
DIV 2 Modern / Unlimited: BCL-102 / Stag-10 / WK180 / AR15 / TAVOR / Swiss Arms / XCR / FAMAE 542 /
T97 / SL8 / TRICKED OUT AK47 / VZ58 / SKS / Modded or Tricked Out Vintage Rifles
DIV 3 Manual Repeating: Bolt / Lever / Pump
DIV 4 Single Shots: Break Actions / Falling Blocks
DIV 5 Muzzle Loaders only
DIV 6 22 Rimfire (unlimited / any 22 Rimfire can enter)

How much ammo do I need?
Except for muzzleloaders which only require 4 rounds, all other categories require 20 rounds

What is the course of fire?
(Except for muzzleloaders where only 1 shot is fired from each position) The participant shoots 5 shots from a standing position, 5 from kneeling, 5 from prone, then 5 from sitting. There must be a reload in between each shooting position

What distance do I shoot at?
Divisions 1-4 shoot at 100 meters/yards
Divisions 5 and 6 shoot at 50 meters/yards

What type of target
Divisions 1-5 use THIS 8" circle
Division 6 (rimfire) uses THIS 4" circle

How does scoring work?
Take your number of hits on target x 5, divide that by the time it takes you to shoot the course of fire (from first shot to last shot), then x the whole thing by 100

Sounds fun! How do I enter?
Film yourself shooting the challenge, upload to any one of the free video hosting sites, and submit the link to cfcdivisions @ gmail .com (remove spaces, obviously). All entries need to be received by March 31st, 2022

I shot last days off for one category so far (hope to quickly stitch the video together on these days off) and if my wife doesn't have too long of a to-do list for me these days off I hope to get out again to try for a different category. Feel free to use this thread to post up some of your video submissions (after making sure to submit them officially to the above e-mail address!) to encourage others to get out there

Lastly, I would like to clarify, I am not associated with the challenge in anyway, but I just wanted to help spread the word around a bit. The challenge has been going for 7 years now and that is entirely thanks to Riflechair and the volunteer division leaders of each category.

I found time last night after dinner to stitch together my video from my first run this year. This is my entry for Division 2 - Modern Semi-Auto using a KelTec RDB in 223. I'm using a non-magnified Vortex Crossfire red dot. I used the Canadian made Cross Mags with 5 rounds loaded into each so the reload is as easy as flipping the mag over. Sorry in advance that I forgot to edit out the wind noise. Also, the 2nd camera at the target had a tough time seeing any of the impacts. Last year it worked better when I was shooting an SKS leaving bigger holes, but I felt it was important to have the entire length of footage in there to prove target continuity

Ok, ok, ok.... I heard you saying
"I'm not a great shooter and I would be embarrassed to submit a low score"

No worries! Firstly, you are only competing against yourself, so your score doesn't matter. Second, the firearms community is super supportive and would rather just see you get out and shoot than sit at home. Lastly, let me present you with my latest run where it takes me 165 seconds to get 6 rounds on target for a total score of 18! So, get out there and make me look bad by absolutely annihilating my score

This is great! Thanks for putting the word out DiMP
Are we allowed to include links to the website or will CGN admins give me another strike?

Hopefully I'll find the time today to edit together my last entry in the competition for 2022; stay tuned for an SKS run

About 10 days left to get out shooting and to submit an entry for this years competition. For those Monday-Friday types that gives you today and all of next weekend to get out and have fun. To show it can be done with damn-near any gun, here is a gun that EVERYONE has... an SKS. On the philosophy of "I'm really only competing against myself" I brought out the same rifle I shot with last year and improved in time (by 3 seconds) and hits on target (by 2... or 20%, whichever sounds more impressive)

Tonight on YouTube (At 5pm Pacific, 6pm Mountain...... etc) is the Cabin Fever Challenge 2022 awards video. On tonight's video you'll see top scores and entries as well as comments and commentary from each of the Division Leaders. Tune in tonight to watch it "live" and you can use the YouTube chat feature, or if you are busy thanking mom for being wonderful tonight, this will also be a great thing to watch over a morning coffee
