Kimber Query

He must know something, right? He didn't say he wanted a Chi-com 1911 either.
Very much like the Kimber, especially in 9mm. Probably my second choice.

Well, personally I wouldn't take the Kimber (unless you like MIM's)!

I prefer Colt but I would look at the STI or the SA, like the one Bob "PA guns" posted before the Mimber!

Hi

The main reason I would not go with Kimber is their customer service. They have a very strange system. Some people call in and get taken care of well, others call with the exact same issue and get treated very poorly.

Hi

Springfield is currently running 9mm's in 1911.

Not a Kimber, but it is a 9mm 1911.

Unfortunately this is the only Springfield I've been able to find in 9mm; why is it so bloody difficult to find a decent, parkerized 1911 in 9mm for under $1100?

Hi

Up until about a year ago that Springfield was totally unobtainable. As far as I can tell they simply were not making them. I spent three years rooting around for one and all of a sudden they are everywhere.

I have not even seen one in blue, let alone in Park. My guess is that there simply isn't enough demand for the 9 to make variations worth doing.

It's nice and I would consider one but unfortunately the Springfield website is so full of extra non-essential BS that even with a very fast Hi-Speed connection I have trouble even getting to where I can see a listing of what they have to offer. Every time you choose a page to look at you have to wait while the stupid thing loads because they have added a bunch of unnecessary graphics. There actually is no listing of the models in each calibre. You have to choose one of the fancy names they have for each category (I guess they're only interested in selling things to people who already know all this) rather than a simple but effective listing of all models in drop down format (yes like Kimber). It's sort of like the website is a tribute to the designer rather than a device to promote product. Sorry but I had to vent that...:)

Hi

The answer to the basic question is that they have the one in the picture above and only that one. If you want something else it's not going to be on the web site, it will be a custom order.

Not much of a selection in 9mm....

Actually not being able to see the website is a blessing. The have stuff there that does not really exist down at your local dealer. When you ask the dealer (or call Springfield) the answer is something about "on back order for 13 months ...".

Because I can always buy new Kimber and I can't buy new Pythons anymore.

One of the options is keeping my Kimber and paying cash for the Colt if I ever find one. ;)

You'll find one if you're patient. If you REALLY gotta have the Python and money is not too much of an issue I'll bet Questar could facilitate locating one for you Stateside and doing all the transfer work etc for a fee.

Hi

If there's a problem with Kimbers over Colts it's not from the MIM stuff. I agree that I'd take a Colt 1911 over a Kimber any day, but it's more related to how each set up the weapon and support you if there is a problem.

Modern Colts seem to work just fine out of the box, modern Kimbers not so much so. Colt fixes problems with a minimum amount of fuss, Kimber can be (but is not always) very fussy.

Kimber on average sets up a pistol very tight, this creates problems some of the time. Colt sets up a pistol a bit more loose, and they work. Colts are fairly middle of the road for looks. Kimbers have the visuals. I'll take reliability ...

Good answer!;) But I would be surprise if you buy the same gun again!

BC Mike is right...you can even find one yourself across the border and have Questar import it for you...simple and fantastic service! I've done it many times!
