What is your go to Turkey Gun

If I want to smash a Tom, I go to my Extrema 1 with a tri-vis sight and pure gold choke and a 3.5” payload. If I am in an area where there is a good chance I might see a coyote, I grab my Blaser ES67 combo gun. I load the 16ga barrel for turkey and if a coyote appears, I send a 5.6x50R to say hello and goodbye.

I am debating pulling the trigger on a Stevens 301 in 410, shooting tss. Seems they are pretty popular in the US for turkey. Everything I've read about it, including on this forum makes me want to but obviously I could only use it for small game as of now. If I could legally hunt turkey with a 410, I'd be all over it.

Not legal in Ontario.

What I use:

Remington 870 SPS Super Mag Turkey/Predator 20" barrel with Shurshot stock in Mossy Oak Obsession
Leupold PRW low rings
Leupold VX-1 1-4x20mm scope with Turkey Plex reticle
Limbsaver Airtech Precision-fit recoil pad
Indian Creek Black Diamond Strike .665
Timney Trigger Fix 1lb-10oz pull
Volquartsen Extractor

What I've got my eye on:

Mossberg 940 Pro Turkey that was just released this year... if they ever make it in 20ga. I love Greenleaf camo.

I use a camo 24" Stoeger m3500 12Ga with pistol grip and 3" Longbeard XR#5 with a Carlson XR choke. I wish I could get a 20" barrel for blind hunting, it's a little tight getting the barrel out the windows.

I think I might try my Killer instant Boss 405 crossbow on opener this year.

The Mossberg I mentioned in my post above has a model with an 18.5" barrel. That, along with the optics ready cutout receiver, has me intrigued.

Cant use 7 either. Only 4, 5 and 6 shot.

You're a few years behind on the hunting regulations.

It's nice that we can use 7's now, but as mentioned by others we should be allowed smaller. Shot shell technology is always advancing. There is no reason we shouldnt be allowed to use 9's in TSS.

The funny part is that we can use 5,6,7 magnum blends. Ever cut one open? The inconsistencies in the slag put many of the pellets in the 9-10 range. There are really tiny pellets in some of them.

Mossberg 835, Carlson 70160, Tru-Glo Gobblestopper using Winchester XR Longbeard 3-1/2" #6 Shot 2-1/8 oz. I consider it the ultimate rig for Turkey hunting. BTW, my neighbor is shooting an 870 in .410 for turkey and does just as well as I do. Not even sure if that show-off is using an optic or not. LOL

I use a Remington 870 3" Magnum with a Cantilever barrel that takes chokes. For Turkey I use a JELLEY HEAD, I use a BUSHNELL Shotgun scope as my eye sight was screwed by Shingles on the dominant eye.

You can kill turkeys with any legal shotgun... I wouldn't get too caught up in shooting gear... more important, is to pattern your gun with a specific load and know how/where it shoots and what you maximum effective range is.
